if the opportunity comes knocking
the door i'll open wide
to show you who i truly am

the skies above darkened
as a tear rolled down my face
as a part of me went missing
never to be replaced

the lessons you taught with passion
the smile on your face
so many days and memories
that in my mind, never to be erased

learning about the united nations
figuring out how to complete a proof
demonstrating how chemicals may react
from all this, i learned one truth

that it was not the information i was learning
even how it may be applied
rather it was about the presentation
the teacher who made the topics come alive

the dynamic lessons that i learned
that captivated my mind
you were among the best of mentors
i could ever find

you inspired me to learn
now you inspire me to teach
in hopes that on my journey
so many young lives i could reach

though i missed my opportunity to tell you
to thank you face to face
i want you all to know right now
you're the reason i'm in this place

so while you may be absent in body
in each of my lessons your spirit will be passed
as you've guided me to this golden path

your energy is unmatched
a little quirky it may seem

appreciation

i have no money in my wallet
always seem to be needing more
while i'm lacking so many things
there are many to be thankful for

while things may seem like they're all wrong
as if things are going downhill
understand that you are lucky to be living
breathing and healthy still

you are surrounded with such beauty
nature that is oh so pure
with it comes inspiration
that all obstacles it can endure

you have friends and family surrounding
always willing to lend their time
you have the ability to think for yourself
decisions of your own mind

you have food on the table
the ability to do as you please
to hear, to touch, to smell
to taste and to see

so become one who looks at what they have
not what they have not
enjoying all the wonderful things
we simply may have forgot

as when the rain is pouring down
deep within i really know
that rain means a treasure is coming
in the form of a rainbow

look not for what you lack
yet all the great things you possess
take in life and all that it offers

falling short

i'm tired of coming up short
just missing a thing or two
as it's happened one too many times
keeping me distanced from you

i've pondered this every day
just trying to understand
as it's time to sacrifice for this cause
to do all that i can

what is the missing element
what will help me fill this void
what will allow me to redirect
so this feeling i can avoid

i've done too much at times it seems
as i altered how i pursued
yet when i did, i pulled too far back
each time, losing you

so i drew up a blue print
too detailed it had become
yet it surely was more successful
when my plans consisted of none

i'll allow my worries to float away
i'll try less and let things flow
as the best of times were so carefree
when i let things out of my control

maybe then i'll find the answer
discover the missing key
so that i may finally reach the line
where it will be you and me

a mother's touch

the day wasn't going well
as the tears began to flow
you had no idea what to do
where you should go

then a warm hand
wiped the tears from your face
as it seemed if all trouble went away
with a sweet embrace

each time things seem to fall short
a mother's hand is there
to bring you hope and encouragement
to save you from despair

to pick up all the pieces
when you need to pull it together
to help shield you from the storm
in the most inclement of weather

she stands up for you
when all others will not rise
she always has something up her sleeve
always waiting to surprise

she sacrifices so much time
so much she is willing to do
as there is never any doubt
that she truly loves you

she is loving and caring
always protecting you
as in your life you wonder
without mother, what you'd do

she is the rock in your life
the reason for your success
now it's time to tell your mother
"you are simply and truly the best"

for this very moment and chance
now it's time to step up and perform
to allow others to have their glance

remember to keep your focus
to trust that you can soar
as you'll need every bit of confidence
in the undiscovered when you explore

it's time to put that toe to the line
to push the limits that you may find
as the only thing stopping you from surpassing
is your overprotective mind

take one last breath, remember your goal
knowing you'll get there today
leave everything out there on that track
let nothing stand in your way

as you are capable to discover much greater
today, you'll leave with no regrets

soul searching

i've always wondered where i am on the road map of life. while i know everything may not be planned, i think to myself, what if it is? what choices have i made that could have altered where i am today and what would my life be like if those alterations were made?

for some reason, i also started to think how lucky i am to be where i am today. a supportive and loving family, amazing friends, and a job that i love waking up to everyday. which led me to the thought, how did i arrive at this point, at this crossroads.

every choice, every action or inaction, every word, every second, ever EVERYTHING. how would it change? many times they say that timing is everything. in a job sense, i think i was lucky enough to find that timing, in other areas, i haven't had much luck with that timing. so what is it that makes things click? that make things fall into place?

am i doing things right? is there even a right to begin with? what would change if i changed the way i acted, the way i do things, the way i approach each day?

why so many questions today? see, even that is a question.

in any case, this soul searching will definitely keep me up this evening, but may, just maybe, i'll find some answers and be able to find my direction, my location ... maybe i'll just try google maps :) ... hey it could work!

i think this will spawn a poem with the same title as my entry :P

sometimes you just have questions
not expecting a response
as a quest to find some answers
an expedition you would launch

jumping from question to question
each question spawning more
as you fall deeper and deeper
the more that you explore

no closer to finding an answer
were you than before
as you ponder you begin to wonder
what you have in store

what decisions placed me here
which ones will move me where
what decisions can I make with speed
which ones should I answer with care

who on my way redirected me
should i be thankful or upset
who will be those who pass on by
who will be the one i never forget

how will i come across my love
where is the place that we'll meet
can that change if i make one wrong turn
on an avenue instead of a street

does the music affect who i am
the shows i watch on tv
did the hobbies i choose mold me
into the person i now see

what role did my friends and family play
should they stay or should they go
what people did i pass on by
that i should have taken the time to know

where did i venture to
that changed the way i see
that allowed me to experience things
that allowed me to become me

what failures led to successes
what obstacles helped me grow
to whom do i owe all my traits
that grew from the seeds they did sow

did i take too long to decide
was my decision so immature
am i headed on the right path
is there any way to be sure

if i am lost who should i ask
to guide me back on my way
should i tell you what's on my mind
or save it for another day

i guess in life you must discover
the answers that may arise
knowing the mystery it possesses
as it becomes one big surprise

yet on the path you must always know
stay true to who you are
as while you may seek out answers
in life you can still go far

as knowing all is not always good
sometimes you must let it all go
as with the lessons life will teach
with each you are sure to grow

life may be one big question
yet never question the life you possess
just know you're lucky to be alive
so very truly blessed

just when you thought not another stride
could be taken straight ahead
as your breathing has become shallow
your body completely dead

your legs feel like they're being stabbed
your back, as if someone has jumped on
as you break your mental focus
thinking all hope for success is gone

however, do not fear, i have a plan
that is almost sure to succeed
if you are able to trust in yourself
allowing yourself to believe

you see within you there's a lock inside
withholding the energy that you need
to give you that additional burst of energy
the endurance and the speed

it will take a bit of sacrifice
if you wish to unlock what's inside
as you'll have to trust that you can move on
that there's still power in your stride

as when you feel fatigue set in
keep pushing against the wall
test your will, your might, your courage
as you prepare to risk it all

don't back off, keep pushing forward
keep your goals in sight
as if you can trust in yourself
things will work out right

the next time you put your toe to the line
as you prepare to race against that clock
know that greatness lies within you
just waiting to be unlocked

red carpet

i'd want to place a red carpet
to line the path you're on
that would stretch into the distance
into the horizon and beyond

to show you a world uncharted
that was just waiting for you
to give you all the resources
to do as you wish to do

to give you the environment
you've envisioned in your mind
as you travel down this road
all you dreamed of you could find

where the fruit tastes much sweeter
the scenes so divine
the water flowing oh so clear
nothing greater you can find

the red carpet is waiting for you
reaching as far as the eye can see
to guide us to adventures
hurry! i'm waiting for you to join me

as while we may find some wrinkles on this path
or the carpet will one day end
i'd be happy to say that along this road
i traveled with my truest and best of friends

closer look

often times you overlook
the smaller things around
that may not stand in front of you
yet are waiting to be found

the ones that will take some time
for you to take a second glance
as by taking a closer look
your experience you will enhance

look at the microcosm
the smaller world that exists
as by looking at the smaller details
you'll be closer to finding bliss

as in life all is not apparent
things lie in layers within
if that is not how you lived your life
today's a good day to begin

head off on your adventures
go and seize the day
but don't pass by the smaller things
you may discover along the way

as it may just be the thing
that you needed all this time
so take a closer look
you'll never know what you'll find
