The new year is always rung in with the traditional foods including lucky noodles, nishime, tai, and those nasty black beans :P We actually have to eat one black bean for every year and one for good luck. While the taste has gotten better since I've gotten older, it still is not easy to finish ALL the beans and every year, it gets tougher with one more bean to down. It was nice to celebrate this year especially since we are beginning to move away from just the cousins and aunties/uncles with the addition of nieces and nephews. I guess it's kind of cool to see things change from year to year, with each dropping of the NYE ball in New York. Each year I am lucky enough to say that the year was filled with wonderful experiences and I am glad to have spent it with so many of my friends and family. This year, is not much different. I enjoyed the year thoroughly and greatly appreciate all the friends that I made and got to spend time with and all the family who I love so dearly. Whether or not the lucky foods and traditions bring me the luck that I am aiming for, I already know that I am lucky to have the life that I live and I hope that I can remember to appreciate it each day of the rest of my life.

The Day 2011 Disappeared

I'm not sure that I could feel more exhausted than I do at this point, however, I don't think there could be a better feeling than that. I think I made the most of 2011 and have very few regrets from a year that I got to see new parts of the country, meet new friends, have new experiences and practically live on the road. I set out on accomplishing many goals and I have begun to slowly chip away at them and I hope that I can continue to do so into 2012.

While I am sad that 2011 is going to disappear in a handful of hours, I know that 2012 will provide many more opportunities. I don't agree with those that tomorrow will be a new beginning, but an opportunity to change the direction in which we are headed for the better or worse. I'm hoping for the better for all those around me, as all those who I call my friends and family deserve it.

I still have a lot of unfinished business from 2011 such as cleaning my pad, donating what needs to be donated, finding more me time, and saving some money, but I know that the opportunities to slowly make those changes will be provided.

all the memories you can create
all this talk has gotten me excited
for the new year, i cannot wait

so raise your classes for this toast
celebrate in the way that you wish
as we head in a new directions
one we hope is filled with true bliss

i have no money in my wallet

while i'm lacking so many things
there are many to be thankful for

while things may seem like they're all wrong
as if things are going downhill
understand that you are lucky to be living
breathing and healthy still

soul searching

i've always wondered where i am on the road map of life. while i know everything may not be planned, i think to myself, what if it is? what choices have i made that could have altered where i am today and what would my life be like if those alterations were made?

for some reason, i also started to think how lucky i am to be where i am today. a supportive and loving family, amazing friends, and a job that i love waking up to everyday. which led me to the thought, how did i arrive at this point, at this crossroads.

every choice, every action or inaction, every word, every second, ever EVERYTHING. how would it change? many times they say that timing is everything. in a job sense, i think i was lucky enough to find that timing, in other areas, i haven't had much luck with that timing. so what is it that makes things click? that make things fall into place?

am i doing things right? is there even a right to begin with? what would change if i changed the way i acted, the way i do things, the way i approach each day?

why so many questions today? see, even that is a question.

in any case, this soul searching will definitely keep me up this evening, but may, just maybe, i'll find some answers and be able to find my direction, my location ... maybe i'll just try google maps :) ... hey it could work!

i think this will spawn a poem with the same title as my entry :P

sometimes you just have questions
not expecting a response
as a quest to find some answers
an expedition you would launch

jumping from question to question
each question spawning more
as you fall deeper and deeper
the more that you explore

no closer to finding an answer
were you than before
as you ponder you begin to wonder
what you have in store

what decisions placed me here
which ones will move me where
what decisions can I make with speed
which ones should I answer with care

who on my way redirected me
should i be thankful or upset
who will be those who pass on by
who will be the one i never forget

how will i come across my love
where is the place that we'll meet
can that change if i make one wrong turn
on an avenue instead of a street

does the music affect who i am
the shows i watch on tv
did the hobbies i choose mold me

what role did my friends and family play

that allowed me to experience things

what failures led to successes
what obstacles helped me grow
to whom do i owe all my traits
that grew from the seeds they did sow

did i take too long to decide

is there any way to be sure

if i am lost who should i ask
to guide me back on my way

or save it for another day

i guess in life you must discover
the answers that may arise
knowing the mystery it possesses

as knowing all is not always good

as your breathing has become shallow
your body completely dead

your legs feel like they're being stabbed
your back, as if someone has jumped on

however, do not fear, i have a plan

if you are able to trust in yourself

withholding the energy that you need

red carpet

i'd want to place a red carpet
to line the path you're on
that would stretch into the distance

where the fruit tastes much sweeter

often times you overlook
the smaller things around
that may not stand in front of you

the ones that will take some time
for you to take a second glance
as by taking a closer look
your experience you will enhance

look at the microcosm
the smaller world that exists
as by looking at the smaller details
you'll be closer to finding bliss

as in life all is not apparent
things lie in layers within
if that is not how you lived your life
today's a good day to begin

head off on your adventures
go and seize the day
but don't pass by the smaller things
you may discover along the way

as it may just be the thing

so take a closer look

NBA Playoffs Projection Analysis - Day 12-14

Projection Analysis - Day 12-14:

Day 12
Miami over Philadelphia in 6
(Philadelphia should put up a fight.)

Miami closed out game five and was able to find more time to rest. While they took the series 4-1, the series was not one they could set their way on cruise control through. They need to rid themselves of the inconsistent play as they face up against a beaten and broke, yet well rested Boston squad.

San Antonio over Memphis in 5
(Don't be surprised if an upset in six happens!)

The Grizzlies had this game with 2.2 seconds to go and seemingly doing everything in their power, the Grizzlies could not take this win in San Antonio for game five, of course, it may be better for Memphis. This only means more money for Memphis and their first series in franchise history being won at home. It's sad to say, but the Spurs are out. The Grizzlies are just playing too good and definitely not like an eight seed.

Denver over OKC in 6 ---> OKC over Denver in 5
(Why does this have to be a first round match up?)

OKC was solid in this victory in game five and solidified themselves as the team to beat in the west. Denver was one of the hottest teams coming into the series and OKC was able to shut them down, as they stepped up their game and Durant and Westbrook showed that they could be the team of the future. OKC to the championships.

Day 13
Atlanta over Orlando in 6*
(A long shot? Atlanta leads the series 3-1 for good reason.)

Atlanta holds through to follow through on my prediction of the upset. Most people did not believe that Atlanta had what it takes to defeat Orlando, I did and had good reasons for it. Dwight may be headed elsewhere in the near future and Van Gundy may also be parting from Orlando. However, for Atlanta, if they can keep up this play, they'll have a shot against Chicago, especially if Rose is not healthy, however, that is an IF. Atlanta showed their inconsistency in the last game, the same that led to blowout victorious in the year. An injury to Hindrich also will hurt them if he is not at 100%.

Portland over Dallas in 6
(Portland has what it needs to pull off this upset.)

Portland had a shot at taking this one, yet they were not able to pull through for the victory and ultimately handed Dallas the series. Dallas has never been a very good playoff team, but with the addition of a solid player like Tyson Chandler (who improved drastically since being on the USA team), and the play of a veteran in Kidd, it's nice to know that they will give the Lakers a run in the second round, whether the Laker fans believe so or not.

Los Angeles over New Orleans in 5
(Easiest Draw - Hornets)

Los Angeles battled yet easily took this one in six against a rookie coach who didn't respond well to the Lakers in games five and six. Without West (their top scorer and inside presence), the Hornets held their own in a series that was suppose to be a breeze. The struggle should concern Laker fans, of course, there was some hope coming down the stretch as the Lakers punked the Hornets, which gave them their two lopsided victories. They won't have as much success doing this against the Mavericks, at least, I would assume not.

San Antonio over Memphis in 5
(Don't be surprised if an upset in six happens!)

I guess secondary guesses can come true. The upset in six happened and a lot had to do with the inside presence of Randolph and Gasol combined with the challenge of the Grizzles. Memphis looked confident out there which is a bad sign for OKC, however, OKC now has inside presence due to the trade, which will help them. I don't see a western championship finals in your future, Memphis, but you will go down in the history books for beating the west number one seed.

a place of solace is found
from the great adventure

to regain back all control

NBA Playoffs Predictions - Round 2

Projections:
Miami over Boston in 7
I wish I could say that Boston would take this, but I am not so sure I can. Boston should come out well out of the gate and could take this series in six, however, if it comes to a game 7, Boston will not win this one. If Boston can stay healthy, Boston in 6.

Chicago over Atlanta in 7
The series will really depend on the health of Rose, who pretty much makes this team as good as they are. Atlanta showed they could handle the inside presence of Howard in their series. I would not be surprised if they arrived with another upset after the confidence they gained, however, the reality is, Orlando just was not that good of a team and Atlanta is inconsistent. Without a healthy Rose, Atlanta in 6.

OKC over Memphis in 5

Dallas surprised me and stepped up against Portland, can they do it again? The Lakers were suppose to cruise against New Orleans, yet they allowed it to become a series. Without a Chris Paul at the controls, the Lakers should be able to take this, however, if Dirk & CO can man up, they just may have a shot the way the Lakers have been playing.

Projection Analysis - Day 11

Atlanta over Orlando in 6*
(A long shot? Atlanta leads the series 3-1 for good reason.)

You knew you'd see this Atlanta team eventually. The model of inconsistency, the Hawks can be awfully bad at times, which they were today. Give credit to the Magic for playing well, but they better be ready to pack their bags, because game six will be their last. Enjoy the flight to Atlanta, because it won't be a fun ride home.

Chicago over Indiana in 5
(Easiest Draw of the East - Indiana)

Indiana can also be just as bad as Atlanta and they showed it in this elimination game. Chicago kept my prediction on track and became my first correct prediction. Chicago over Indiana in five (4-1), check!

Los Angeles over New Orleans in 5 (Take this one to 7 baby!!)
(Easiest Draw - Hornets)

The Lakers bullied the Hornets, at times with unnecessary cheap shots (shove after the play by Gasol, elbow to the face by Kobe, elbow by Brown), in clearly taking this win. The only effect Kobe's foot has was when pivoting, as you could see he wasn't as mobile off the pivot, however, he made sure he made some noise when taking it to the rack. The team without Kobe is actually when they really gained their lead with a +15 point or so advantage. They also dominated in the paint and on second chance points. The Hornets also committed almost twenty turnovers, a no no if you want a chance to win.

San Antonio over Memphis in 5
(Don't be surprised if an upset in six happens!)

Grizzles simply look like they want this series more. The Spurs look sluggish and the Grizzlies look quick and have shown a swarming defense that ranks high in the league, shutting their opponents down to approximately 42% per game. While Parker stepped up early for the Spurs, it wasn't enough to hold off the run the Grizzles had at the beginning of the second half, which simply put the Spurs away, probably for the series. The youthful energy of the Grizzlies has overpowered the experience of the Spurs once again. Looks like I'll take my secondary prediction, Memphis in six.

Portland over Dallas in 6
(Portland has what it needs to pull off this upset.)

Portland went cold and did not play their game in the second half against a team who plays well in the second half, the Mavericks. The combination led to the Mavericks taking a 3-2 lead and blowing my prediction. Portland will come fighting back in game six, but taking game seven in Dallas may be asking too much.

Denver over OKC in 6 ---> OKC over Denver in 5
(Why does this have to be a first round match up?)

Looks like the Nuggets did not want the series to end and finally stepped up with some emotion during the game. While they are facing the team playing the best in the west at this point, the Nuggets could have had a chance against OKC, even at their best. Unfortunately, it's a little too late for the Nuggets. This win was good for the fans in Denver and hope for the future in their post-Carmelo stage, however, the road will end in OKC.

Looks like game 7 will be impossible. In fact, the bruised up Knicks will be lucky to make it back to New York. The team claims they need more time to get the chemistry to be a good team, what they need are better players. They traded a lot for Carmelo and while the Nuggets did not perform in the playoffs against a solid OKC team, you can see what they actually gave up, a chance.

No one believed me when I posted this, but you better start believing. Despite Dwight Howard being a tough presence to stop, Crawford has helped push the Hawks with another solid effort and a clutch three down the stretch to leave the Magic in a must-win situation Sunday.

Kobe and Pau stepped it up to take the series lead for the first time. They were able to keep Chris Paul contained which is the way that you are going to beat these Hornets. However, if you can barely beat the West-less Hornets, why would Laker fans think they can beat OKC?

Chicago almost looked like they were going to give the game to Indiana. Although they woke up late in the game, the Bulls team has looked even more vulnerable than ever and will have to step it up if they want to make a run into the playoffs. Bulls fans should be concerned with the health of Rose as well, as no Rose = no championship. Sorry, but it's true.

The notation above was posted before playoffs began and I still stand by my word that the Grizzlies could pull of this series in six. They have been using their size behind Randolph to their advantage and the Spurs better find an answer on Monday or they could see an early exist, something the would not be used to. The Grizzles have a balance, so the Spurs better take them series. Good game from Manu, but it will take much, much more to put the feisty Grizzlies away.

Portland over Dallas in 6
(Portland has what it needs to pull off this upset.)

I was a little worried since the Mavericks normally are a solid second half team. However, I did call that the series would be even as it came back to Dallas, which it is! Portland should be able to beat Dallas, however, have not played to their potential. There are a lot of players that can step it up for Portland to give them the series, however it was Roy on the bench that brought them from 23 down. Momentum Portland. Series, Portland? Only if they can take one in Dallas Monday.

Denver over OKC in 6 ---> OKC over Denver in 5
(Why does this have to be a first round match up?)

Denver should have had game three, but let it slip away. Without the presence of Chandler, it keeps the Nuggets from challenging the team playing the best in the west so far in the first round. With Ibaka stepping up, the Thunder will look to take the rest of the West by storm. Look for the Nuggets to take game four on Monday, but lose the series in five in OKC. Who wouldn't want the extra revenue?

Day 9
Miami over Philadelphia in 6
(Philadelphia should put up a fight.)

Miami could have had their sweep and much needed rest, yet they're not going to get it. The 76ers, who led in the first, then trailed at the half, were able to make up for a six point deficit late in the game to take a four point margin ending on a 10-0 run. Don't expect this to lead to any turnarounds for Philadelphia, however, the Heat now lose the rest they could have used.

Over in four? I never thought that would be possible, but the Knicks looked horrible and made the Celtics look spectacular. Give it up to Boston for taking four straight and reward them with a week of much needed rest, however, the Knicks made them look much better than they are. The Stoudemire-Anthony combination was suppose to be spectacular, I think it only hurt them, as they lost a lot of key players and will have to rethinking and rebuild this off season.

Atlanta pulls out a close one. The Hawks almost threw the game away with their passive play down the stretch, however, they did hold on in order to take the victory and a 3-1 series lead, leaving the Magic wondering, how they go into this situation. Even without their backup center, the Hawks managed to contain Howard enough to get the win and probably the series.

Los Angeles should be leading this series and be heading to a game five to wrap up this series, instead, they have a slightly injured Kobe Bryant and a tied series (2-2) going back to Los Angeles. In game 3, they were able to contain Chris Paul, however, he exploded in game four with a triple-double in the third. Watch out this series could end up going to seven.

NBA Playoffs Projection Analysis - Day 6

Projection Analysis - Day 6:

Chicago over Indiana in 5
(Easiest Draw of the East - Indiana)

The Bulls have not necessarily been running away with these games against Indiana and faced another close match up against them in game 3. It would be nice for Chicago to be able to cruise through the first round, however, they've had to battle and soon enough it will catch up with them. I think Indiana will take game 4 so Chicago can take the series in game 5 at home.

Miami over Philadelphia in 6
(Philadelphia should put up a fight.)

Brand and Holiday could not do enough to hold back the fourth quarter surge of the Heat, as the Heat went up 3-0 in the series behind a strong performance of the trio in Philadelphia. It looks more and more like the 76ers will only be able to pull off one more win, which will leave it at Miami in 5, could it be a clean sweep? My sources say no, as teams always find a way to avoid the sweep (a ploy to generate more money in ticket sales).

Portland over Dallas in 6

While Portland most likely will not win this series in six (if at all), they do stand a good chance of coming out of Portland even. If Aldridge can continue to step up and if Portland can keep the spread of scoring to a minimum, they should have a fairly good chance this season. The first quarter deficits of the Mavericks finally caught up with them as the first quarter deficit cost them the game tonight. Look for an even series returning back to Dallas.

Denver over OKC in 6 ---> OKC over Denver in 5

OKC showed its might tonight as it left no doubt of who should take this series. While I do feel that Denver can match OKC, if they play like they did today, Denver does not stand a chance. There's a lot of talk about how OKC will be the one to out perform and today was a good indicator. However, Denver plays best in the mile high city. I change my vote to OKC in 5 :P

San Antonio over Memphis in 5
(Don't be surprised if an upset in six happens!)

Memphis still put up a fight against San Antonio, however Manu's 17 points is exactly what San Antonio needed to fight off the Grizzlies. The presence in the paint evened out since game 1 with the Spurs holding the edge in rebounds while keeping Gasol and Randolph in control. George Hill also stepped it up off the bench with 16.

(Easiest Draw - Hornets)

The Lakers took on a more physical presence in game 2 and in some cases took it a bit too far. However, it allowed them to be competitive and play better against the surging Hornets who have looked good in the first two games behind Paul. Two main keys stand out in the Hornets loss - the increased attention to contain Paul and the number of turnovers for the Hornets. Even so, the Lakers only won by nine with Bryant and Gasol combining for less than 20 points.

Boston over New York in 7

Boston faced a weakened Knicks team who was missing Billups and lost Stoudemire in the second half to spasm. However, with Anthony, the Knicks still hung around and kept it a game again while away at Boston. While Boston has been solid on the road, they will have to step up their game in order to take even one game out of New York. Rondo helped pull Boston through this game, but it needs a lot of fine tuning if they want to keep this series from going to seven.

Atlanta over Orlando in 6*
(A long shot? Atlanta leads the series 3-1 for good reason.)

Despite Howards 33-19 game, the Hawks still had the chance and the game down to two in the final few minutes. Opening with a huge first quarters, the Hawks could not close the half with the lead and at that point, lost the game. The Hawks will come back to fight and home and will hopefully come back 3-1 as the series heads back to Orlando, if that happens, it will be Atlanta in 6.

Portland over Dallas in 6
(Portland has what it needs to pull off this upset.)

Portland has the tools to pull of this upset, yet it doesn't matter if you can't piece them together. The presence of Tyson Chandler may have been just what the Mavericks needed to help fend off the fiesty Trailblazers. There is no way that Portland can take this in 6 anymore, however, they will continue to put up a fight and will hopefully come out of Portland with an even series. In order to do so, they must stop Dirk and Kidd in the second half, where the Mavericks normally step it up.

Chicago over Indiana in 5

Indiana should have won this one, but let it slip away late. If Chicago plays like this, don't expect a championship to return to the Windy City. Indiana has stepped up their game, but it shouldn't be this close of a call AT HOME! Just wait until you get on the road. Plus, you're making me lose money!

Dwayne Wade had migraine headaches before this one, yet still managed to help the Heat dismantle the 76ers. After this performance, I'm not sure if Philadelphia is capable of coming back and we may see this series end in 5, dare I say it? 4?

NBA Playoffs Projection Analysis - Day 2

Projection Analysis - Day 2:

San Antonio over Memphis in 5
(Don't be surprised if an upset in six happens!)

If you look at my original post on Thursday, I said it was possible to have an upset in this series. Before you get too excited, however, it is good to note that San Antonio was short one Manu, who should make a difference in the series. The Grizzlies still look solid in this showdown though and if they can keep the physical inside presence alive behind Randolph and Gasol, Charles Barkley will be coming out with a new song called, "I told you so!"

Los Angeles over New Orleans in 5
(Easiest Draw - Hornets)

It was sad to see the Lakers lose to the worst team in the West missing their leading scorer (West). Scratch that, I'm not really sad. The Lakers allowed Chris Paul to do as he pleased and despite shooting 69% from the FT line on 33 attempts, the Hornets were able to pull this one out. The bench for the Hornets stepped up big behind Gray, however, don't expect to see him back after landing on the side of his ankles, yikes! If the Hornets play like this and the Lakers like that, watch out, but if things work out as planned the Lakers should move through this series.

Boston over New York in 7
(I wouldn't be surprised if this ended in 5.)

New York held their ground against Boston better expected with Amare Stoudemire coming through 12 of 18 from the field, however, it was Carmelo Anthony disappearing that really hurt the Knicks after a 5 of 18 shooting night that shot them out of the game. Down the stretch, the last shot Anthony took would have been better if he took it to the rack, rather than leave it up to a three pointer for the win. In any case, Ray Allen's clutch three allowed the Celtics, who chipped away at the 12 point halftime lead, to climb ahead and ultimate take the victory. Don't expect the Knicks to give up, as they'll have a few more games like this in the series.

There were a few controversial calls in this game that could have turned the tide in favor of the Nuggets, however, to be honest, Durant and Westbrook probably would have found a way to put them on top this evening. The two combined looked like men among boys. The series, however, will not always have them playing this well and it will take others to step up to defeat the quick and well balanced attack of the Nuggets.

Indiana put up quite the fight and they have the potential to play well, however, they also have the potential for horrible games and I'm expecting a bit of a let down in game 2. Indiana tried to make me eat my words (easiest draw in the east), however, I wouldn't take that back. D-Rose led the charge for the Bulls back and showed a lot of people why he's the pick for MVP!

(Philadelphia should put up a fight.)

And fight they did. Philadelphia almost had the trio from South Beach and the talents that all headed to South Beach were almost outworked. Don't expect an easy game 2, Philadelphia will battle, just not enough to win this series.

Most people doubted me on this one. While Orlando will definitely come back and probably win game 2, Atlanta knows they can take down the Magic with a 4-1 lead. Even with Dwight Howard going off, if Atlanta can be consistent, consider it a first round bow out for the Magic. Teams that have won the first game win the series 70+% of the time.

Portland over Dallas in 6

I was quite upset that Portland gave this up being up six in the fourth, however, Kidd and Dirk really stepped it up in the fourth quarter. Sooner or later, the slow starting Mavericks will shoot themselves in the foot. I think Portland will come back strong to take game 2.
