~:[CH14 - Day 243]:~ Refreshing

~:[CH14 - Day 243]:~ Refreshing

I originally planned on cleaning up after Cow Run, but with the heat sweltering,  I attended my language class, I ran a few errands and then wrapped up all the paperwork for the meet. After that, I didn't move much, as I enjoyed the A/C which started early in the morning. I wanted to try to perfect my salad recipe and today was the perfect day to try it. I fried up some discounted chicken I purchased an fried it up as it became a lemon garlic chicken to go with my roasted sesame cabbage salad! In August, one of my goals was to spend as little money as possible aside from expenses for all the team/school events. I actually did pretty well as I cooked a lot of meals, minimized outings, and avoided looking online for myself. It felt refreshing to realize how well I did and even more refreshing to eat this cold salad indoors in perfect conditions. After a tough week, it was just what I needed to recover and a great way to transition into a new week.

~:[CH14 - Day 242]:~ Raise the Hoof!

 ~:[CH14 - Day 242]:~ Raise the Hoof!

I love this event, but I also love when it's over. After months of work, it's a great feeling to unload the final box at my house and then go to eat with the volunteers who stayed until the end. It means, we survived. With the temperatures rising, it was worrisome as I didn't want to have a bunch of athletes go down. However, the coaches did a good job of watching their athletes and adjust things accordingly allowing for a smooth meet. I am always to see all the people participate in the event from the children to the adults, as they all do their part to help Raise the Hoof year after year. Of course, this event wouldn't be possible without all the volunteers who step up to make it work. From the alumni, the coaches, the parents, and many others, they all contribute to make things flow and ultimate, allow for the event to be a success. At the end of the day, I am grateful if we have an event with few issues and that is what we had this year. While things could be better or improved all the the time, at the end of the day, you look back, take notes and do you best to adjust for what's to come. I'll begin thinking long and hard about what the theme of next year's meet will be, but for now, I guess I'll close my eyes knowing that this year, we were truly on beat as we Raised the Hoof.

~:[CH14 - Day 241]:~ Keeping Your Cool

~:[CH14 - Day 241]:~ Keeping Your Cool

It was a jam packed day. From the last day of the week to the Gahr rally, the Cow Run setup and the Gahr game, it was an overflowing plate for a Friday. I tried to do it all in the sweltering heat, but at last, it didn't work out. I enjoyed the performances at the rally, jammed home to load everything for setup, and headed back to school for practice. We then headed back to Glenn to finish setting up. We ended up being a bit shorthanded in part due to a group that showed up late and others who didn't show up at all. Instead of getting upset though, I focused on what we needed to do. When things are busy, it's easy to lose your cool, but then you just set yourself more off track. You lose focus and thus, take longer to complete tasks that you could have done quickly. Even when things get heated, keep your cool. I did and I was grateful for a group who stuck around and did what they needed to do before the headed off. Sadly, because of it, I didn't get over to the Gahr game, but it may have been a blessing in disguise, as I got a few more things done, before headed back to Glenn for the final setup after their football game. By 11pm, we wrapped up the setup and the long day had concluded. My body was sore, my mind overloaded, but still yet, I was grateful to have a full day where I was able to do most of what I set out to do. There are too many things that are out of your control from the schedule to the weather and even other people, however, when you keep your cool, you're more likely to get the job done and today, we did just that.

~:[CH14 - Day 240]:~ If We Only Had More Time ...

~:[CH14 - Day 240]:~ If We Only Had More Time ...

It might be one of the most common statements made. Whether it's working on a project or just life itself, often times, we wish for more time. We often let time slip away, but don't realize it until it's too late. It was a little weird setting up for Cow Run on a Thursday, but with a home football game at Glenn on Friday, we started the setup a day earlier. We needed more time, but life only gave us a certain amount, so we had to find a way to make it work. That's life. We are allotted a certain amount of time and it's up to us how we spend it. The only problem is, we don't have a gauge that tells us exactly how much time we have left. We don't know our deadline, we only know that our life upon this earth is limited. It is more pressing when we know we have limited time or can we push ourselves to make the most of every minute while we are still here? Do you often put off important things thinking you have tomorrow? I think it's important to change our mindset a bit especially when we are young. Instead of thinking how much time we have, we should look at it as we only have a certain amount of time left. I recently wrote about seeing the glass as half full, but at the same time, when it comes to time, we should see that glass as half empty so we push ourselves to stop putting those important things off and make it a priority. Treasure those days, those hours, those minutes and even those seconds we have, as once they're gone, they're gone forever. In all aspects of our life, time is limited so instead of saying, if we only had more time, I hope that in the end we say, I'm glad that we took the time to ...

~:[CH14 - Day 239]:~ My Brain is Fried

~:[CH14 - Day 239]:~ My Brain is Fried

It feels like this sometimes. You are trying to think of what you need to do and then you forget. You were suppose to do this or that ad you forget again. When everything is chaotic, it's easy to get distracted and forget something you needed to do. However, maybe my brain was not fried, maybe it was just a short circuit. However, even though early on, I kept forgetting this or that, by night's end, I was quite satisfied. I finished up our entries, printed up all the paperwork, organized the signs, sent out all the emails, and closed out the prep for the meet. It's amazing how much ink and paper I went through in just the past few days, but looking down at my folder for the weekend, I even impressed myself. I actually got a lot more done that I thought I would. You just never know something will end. Even if you get off to a rough start, keep working through it and see what comes of it. I could easily have tossed my hands up and passed this work on to tomorrow, but I powered through and now the workload for tomorrow has decreased significantly. I know by Saturday evening, I'll be lying around, not wanting to move, but at least for now, I'll allow my brain to reset once more with a lot less to worry about for the next few days. I messaged this photo to my friend as we laughed together. It was just what I needed as my friend and I start on our planning for a new project upcoming after I wrap this one up.

~:[CH14 - Day 238]:~ Good Meal, Great Memories

~:[CH14 - Day 238]:~ Good Meal, Great Memories

I got a notification, I needed to updated my CPR/FA soon. With Cow Run coming up, I couldn't think about it, right? It was even more a reason to think about it, as I needed to get this task out of the way so I could focus in on what I needed to. I laid out my schedule and figured out that I had enough time to finish everything I needed to and complete the class. I completed the first portion yesterday and went into class and wrapped up the certification. Done. I felt relief that I was able to finish it up as I thought about all I had to do before Saturday. It was a little worrisome, but I also ended up making time to see an alum and catch up. We went to a little spot that has changed over to a new restaurant (or at least name) and it definitely hit the spot. We got to chat a bit about how things were going as we reminisced about the past, while also talking about what's ahead. During the dinner, someone else walked up to us. I previously felt familiar vibes from the person and as they walked closer, it was confirmed who they were. The name immediately popped into my head even though it's been over a decade since I last saw her. It's cool to run into people you know from time to time. While your memory will fade, you will also get the opportunity to recall some of those memories that have slowly disappeared. You touch up those memories so they continue to be vivid in your mind. As busy as I was, it was worth it to remove some worries from my mind and allow myself the ability to fill that void with great memories I had forgotten. I wrapped up the night knowing I had things to do, however, I think this little pause was just what I needed to head full force into the upcoming days. I hope your day is filled with good meals and even greater memories.

~:[CH14 - Day 237]:~ Workhorse

~:[CH14 - Day 237]:~ Workhorse

I think if you found a way to describe my style, it's a workhorse. I rather be constantly working behind the scenes than take a lead role where I have to interact, although I would if needed. As I prep for the Cow Run, I stamped my way to making hundreds of buttons for the upcoming race. My dad called it a manufacturing plant and in reality, it kind of was. As I pumped out button after button, I felt satisfaction in knowing that I was closing in on my goal. For each of us, we have a skill and I hope we can focus in and use it. .While we want to build our other skills, we can also make sure we do what we do best. In my case, that's working through the hours, slaving away through the tasks of things I need to finish. As I said before, I am a person of deadlines and I am working towards reaching another one that's coming soon.

~:[CH14 - Day 236]:~ Reaching Upward

~:[CH14 - Day 236]:~ Reaching Upward

Although I had a lot to do for the Cow Run, I looked at my upcoming schedule and decided, I should go to the Rascals practice this week in case I couldn't in the future. I actually haven't been to one recently since the summer season ended before I returned, which was the first season for my niece. It was cool to see her play and I was impressed with her dribbling, although not surprised since she always played with her brother. It's cool to watch the youth play as you wonder where they will end up. Not all will end up playing basketball, but no matter what they do, I hope that they push forward and reach upward towards their goals. Life can be intimidating and it's easy to shy away, but when you learn from an early age to accept a challenge, I think you're more able to do so when you're older. I definitely had my moments where I felt discouraged or anxious, but I think going through all those challenging times helped me reach higher as I moved through life. As I close the evening off running an in-house factory making buttons for next weekend, I thought about how my ability to organize events like this are possible since those around me pushed me to believe in myself and reach for great heights. It's scary to fail, but it's even scarier not to fail as by doing so, we learn what to do and how to grow. Even if you're old and gray, it's never too late to set a new goal and reach upwards to see where you can go from here. It's time for liftoff!

~:[CH14 - Day 235]:~ Closing In

~:[CH14 - Day 235]:~ Closing In

I'm definitely a deadline person. I am good at approximating how long something will take and getting the timing right to finish it all by the deadline. My motivation is absence when the deadline is also absent, thus, I love to set deadlines for myself to keep me on track. As the Cow Run quickly approaches, all the work put in will ultimately determine how it plays out. While there are factors out of my control, the work that I put into planning, coordination, and execution will determine how it all plays out. I love putting on the event, but don't necessarily like the stress that accompanies it all. However, as the event closes in, there is a bit of excitement and anticipation as I think of all the things I need to do. Sure, it was one of the few days that was clear of anything, still yet, I had a long list of things to do before next week. I guess there never really is a "day off" during the school year. Of course, to keep my brain from being fried, I went to the market and ended up cooking dinner for my family, as it brings a good sense of satisfaction amongst a day full of grinding to get everything ready. As the day closes in, I worry if we'll have enough volunteers, if the participants will be happy, and if everything will run smoothly, but just like life, you can only do so much and with the deadlines how in view, I'll be pushing forward and closing in on the finish line. I hope to see many of you at the event next Saturday, but for those who I don't see, I hope that you find the motivation to keep working towards that finish line so you can find your own success in your life.

~:[CH14 - Day 234]:~ Back in the Day

~:[CH14 - Day 234]:~ Back in the Day

Us three go way back. It's cool to think about the old days and how long we've been working together. We've built up a pile of memories and I hope there's another large pile of memories ahead. As we went back into the 90s, I ended up just finding a plaid top with bright colored shoes. It wasn't the perfect 90s outfit, but good enough. However, no matter what I found, it wouldn't be better than celebrating another year together with these ones. There's a number of people who I've had a similar history with and these are just a few, but every time we get nostalgic, it's a great time to show appreciation for those who make the days a little easier. While I am glad to where I am today, in another ten years we'll be looking back on this day thinking of the great memories we've created once more. As while many things around us will change, I hope that we'll be able to celebrate all these great memories we've had "back in the day" in the days and years ahead. Happy Friday!

~:[CH14 - Day 233]:~ The Blazing Sun

~:[CH14 - Day 233]:~ The Blazing Sun

It was hot today. It wasn't the hottest it's ever been, but also hot enough to make it uncomfortable. Practice was called off again, but we still had a little gathering at the Towne Center to enjoy each other's company. While I wish it was just a bit cooler, I guess you can't complain when you have a beautiful sky overhead. Instead of stormy weather, you get a beautiful blue sky and also, there wasn't any humidity like when I was in Japan. You can't always get what's perfect, but even in tough situations, you can see the pluses versus the minuses. What are you going to see? Are you going to see the blazing sun or a clear blue sky? Perspective in life changes everything and how you see things is often up to you. "Is the glass half empty or half full" is the most common of these views and you have to decide how you see it. I'll aim at trying to take the half full perspective this year, as while it may not be easy to maintain throughout the year, I'll try to keep myself on track. As I start the year off with an essay for my students, I know it will be a struggle to get them to focus in just off of summer, but I'll look for their efforts and progress and I'll appreciate their questions. I was exhausted by day's end, but that also meant that I worked hard and had something to fulfill my day. I hope that we can all see our days from a positive perspective, as while life isn't always easy, we can make the burden a little lighter when we keep things as positive as we can. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the beautiful blue sky overhead.

~:[CH14 - Day 232]:~ Staying Cool

~:[CH14 - Day 232]:~ Staying Cool

It was hot outside. It was so hot that our practices afterschool got canceled. Of course, we stayed cool. It's cool to work alongside your family and friends and get to see them day in and day out. It's always a fun adventure where you can joke around, vent to each other, and support each other. On a day where everyone was dying from the heat outside, I was able to carry with me more good memories created by a few little encounters with cool people. When the weather is dragging you down, find cool people to hang around with you to help carry you through the day and to help keep you smiling through the day. I ended up having to go back outside into the heat, but left with a few cool memories from the day. Stay cool ya'll and be sure to hydrate!

~:[CH14 - Day 231]:~ Making History

~:[CH14 - Day 231]:~ Making History

It's always cool to be part of history. With CIF establishing girls flag football, we had our first home game of the season. It was great to see various teams come out to support them, as they ended up with a victory over Culver City for their first home win. To watch this group come together and be the first to go through this whole process is fun and to think that they can look back on these moments and say, "we were the first." In the future, when they're old and gray, they'll be able to tell these stories of the experience and others who participate in the program will be able to look back on this group who started it all. It's difficult to be the first, but when you are able to, you cement your place in history as the trailblazers that many others follows. You provide opportunities for those who come behind you, as you leave a legacy for others to enjoy. I am hoping that there is a lot of success for this program and they go on to experience many great moments and create amazing memories. For all of us, we'll have our own opportunities to make history in our own way. Whether it's within our own personal life or out in the community, let's be sure to lay a foundation that is strong so that others can truly enjoy and appreciate the work we put it. Congratulations on your first home win and best of luck on your historic journey ahead.

~:[CH14 - Day 230]:~ Breaking Barriers

~:[CH14 - Day 230]:~ Breaking Barriers

This run always gives me the most stress, but is also the one that we see the most breakthroughs. We setup the most water stops and check points during this run, trying to get them to their farthest run of the year. It was great to see such a large group make it through the whole route and another large group finish their longest run of the year. After a summer of training, the group was able to wrap up the workout, with many breaking down the barriers that held them back. Sure, a few times they almost went the wrong way, but we corrected them and they finished up the workout. Working with students and athletes, the biggest joy in life is to see them do something they can be proud of. As coaches and teachers, we can only guide them and it's up to them to do the rest. When they do so, they grow in ways that you cannot measure. By the end of practice, it was a bit late, but time passed by so quickly as I truly enjoy seeing them get through this workout and overcome the obstacles along the way. While not all of them end up finishing the workout, the ones who don't often still break through some challenges and can be equally as proud, as they prepare for the next challenge. It's always a bit exhausting on Monday, but it's these times of moments that give you a bit of energy to power you through the rest of the week. I hope that for all of us, we believe in ourselves and find the opportunities to break down the barriers in our own lives. Our potential is limitless, but in order to discover it, we must be willing to take the strides forward even when we aren't fully confident. Let's do it!

~:[CH14 - Day 229]:~ Sharing Knowledge

~:[CH14 - Day 229]:~ Sharing Knowledge

It was nice to have a day where I didn't set an alarm. While I had something on my schedule, it wasn't early enough to have to set an alarm. I got some work done, made my stop at Tapioca Express, then headed to meet with my friend. During my trip to Japan, he helped me out as I couldn't get my computer to export as it should have. In exchange, he asked to pick my brain. I thought it was cool to help guide someone who wants to do something similar to what I've been working on. I'm not someone who likes to gatekeep and will share the knowledge I have with others if they have the right intent. I was actually grateful that I could provide some information and answer his questions, as I always feel proud when those I share knowledge with go on to use that same knowledge. While I often get to see it with my students, I am excited to see that happen with my friends as well. I refocused and got back to work on the very thing I was helping my friend with, but it seemed like I was a little more motivated to get the work done after I had shared knowledge. The world is a competitive place and we always aim to get ahead, but often times in life, you can get further when you share your wealth of knowledge and journey ahead together with others who can help motivate and support you along the way.

~:[CH14 - Day 228]:~ Gathering Together

~:[CH14 - Day 228]:~ Gathering Together

I woke up early and the day didn't seem like it would go well. I almost made it to our meet in Fullerton when I realized I forgot my laptop. I was timing the meet. I drove home and still was able to  make it back with time to spare. Luckily, I left early enough.  As we gathered for our time trial, it was great to see how the athletes have progressed. In a new role, I still do a similar amount of work, but watching the training plan versus laying it out makes it feel a little different. You wonder how it all will play out, but then again, you can also focus on the smaller things you couldn't before. It definitely had it's perks. After a smooth morning, I ventured over to Fountain Valley to catch the Nikkei Games. It was a last minute decision, but decided to squeeze it in and it was worth it. I was happy to see my family gather together to watch the younger ones in our family participate in the event. I haven't seen a lot of them in awhile since I had been gone, but there always is something about gathering together and just spending time together. As I look back, I truly appreciate the fact that I am lucky enough to gather together with people that I love and support. While I am not always available, when I am, I will definitely appreciate the time we share and treasure it, similarly to how I mentioned it in the past. As nice as it would be to rest, it's worth it to expend the energy to get up to support the team at a race or to spend time with friends and family. When you're torn between the two, just remember that our opportunities may be limited like our time in this world. I closed out the day with a media day for the girls flag football team and just watching them together reminded me of the moments I created today with my team and my family that I'll be able to cherish just like they'll be able to cherish this day.

~:[CH14 - Day 227]:~ Fulfilling

~:[CH14 - Day 227]:~ Fulfilling

It was a full day, but also a fulfilling one. With an already exhausting work schedule and the addition of an assembly today, I came home to enjoy some moments with my family. I was tired from an exhausting week, but in some ways, there were many fulfilling moments. I adjusted my mindset a little and it has helped a bit in making the days pass by a little quicker. As I look forward to the next day, I take one more step towards where I want to end up. Of course, along the journey, there are moments where you get to create memories such as these, as you begin to realize, you won't get the days that pass you by back every again, thus, I also do my best to avoid looking forward too much. As I watch my niece and nephew grow, I see that I won't be able to enjoy their company at a particular age, so I should appreciate every year and create as many memories during that time as possible so later on, we can recall these particular moments we shared. Similarly, we celebrated a beautiful day from ten years ago. Time has flown by so quickly and it reminds you to treasure each of these days. Do you best to make your days full of great moments and memories and appreciate all the moments you get to experience. Watching our students step on stage and create a production or seeing my athletes work hard to prepare for their upcoming race, all these moments that seem so routine and ordinary, are things that I'll appreciate so that down the line, there will be a lot that I can be thankful for as I share these memories with those around me. I wish that the days ahead of you are just as fulfilling and that you'll build up a pile of memories you can cherish for years to come.

~:[CH14 - Day 226]:~ Just Trash It

~:[CH14 - Day 226]:~ Just Trash It

I was devastated. I cracked this plate I got from Disney Sea. I could go on eBay and replace it, but I think the sentiment of having the original weighs with me sometimes. The eBay version will be but a replacement, whereas others might just see it as an equal, yet flawless, replacement. Most would say, just trash it and replace it if you want, but for me, it brings back the memories of who I was with and the experiences we had there and a replacement may not carry that same value. Even this fractured version seems to be of greater value than that replacement. While watching a drama, I came across a scene that reminded me of this. They were talking about workers and how others see certain type of workers. They talked about how sometimes construction workers are passed off as simple day laborers, when the precious and accuracy of their work is vital to our livelihood and safety. Just a few centimeters or inches off or forgetting to do this or that and disaster may ensue. Similarly, for a barista, for many they may see them as just someone who makes their drink, but for many, we may realize how a particular person might have just the right touch, whether the knowhow to make our drink the right way or the personality to start our day off right. As they discussed who fit in at this posh cafe, they demonstrated the class system of how some seemed to fit in while others did not, similarly, how some felt welcomed and some did not. If you came to visit me and I had this plate on display, you'd probably wonder why I had it on display. However, until you know the importance of what you are talking about, you truly won't know its value. I hope that as humans, we can see the value of all. We live in a world where many are looked down on, mistreated, and taken advantage of for various reasons. There are assumptions and judgements made even before we know a person or their story. In many cases, religions and laws aim to protect all people and aim for equal treatment, yet can some people continuously are seen similar to this fractured plate, something to trash. We are all human and we all deserve to be treated as such. We may see someone as fractured because maybe they are struggling financially, drive a run down car, or because of where they live, but until we know their story, how can we make any judgements about them? Similarly, for those who seem flawless, how can we assume that they should be valued? Let's not assume that something could be trashed at first glance, but let's take the time to learn and understand. I think we'll often discover that there is more than meets the eye, whether good or bad.

~:[CH14 - Day 225]:~ Where Are We Headed?

~:[CH14 - Day 225]:~ Where Are We Headed?

It was the last of first for some as we started the school year. For me, it was one of many. For each of us, this journey is different. Some are headed towards the end of their next chapter, some are in the middle of the plot of their story called life. As I got used to my new schedule, I struggled a bit as I still arrived at the same time in the morning and waited until my first class began two hours later. Although the day was stressful without the ability to get the work I needed done in the short time I had before practice, I'll have to figure it out. I'll adjust, I'll adapt, and I'll figure out how to go about my route from here. You have to. It's survival. However, for each of us, we have to figure out how to navigate life itself. We have to figure out where we are headed and how do we get there. When we don't, we end up in a loops that we can't get out of, which leads us astray. All of my students will get lost at some point, we all do. The question is, will they be able to find out how to navigate from there? We can't determine what will happen, but we can still prepare for all the possibilities and also lend a helping hand to those around us. As although it's survival, we don't have to survive it alone. Along our journey we will encounter people who will help us and guide us, we will help others, and we will experience things we would have never experienced without the challenges of life. Where are we headed? Sometimes, I really wonder, still yet, I don't doubt that the road ahead will be a great adventure full of chances to learn, to grow, and eventually celebrate the many last firsts in our life. For the seniors, they'll experience theirs as they close out this chapter and soon enough, I'll reach a point in my life where I am doing the same. Instead of worrying about it all though, I'll focus on grinding through the challenges and enjoying all the great moments that await ahead.

~:[CH14 - Day 224]:~ What to Shred

~:[CH14 - Day 224]:~ What to Shred

The school year begins and I am scrambling to get ready. Even with no time yesterday to setup, I had enough time to setup my room and get everything in order, although I didn't get to the stacks of papers I wanted to sort through. While I am glad that my classroom is at least set up, over the next few weeks, I'll have to decide on what to keep and what to shred. As you move through life, how do you decide what you should keep close to your heart and what you should eliminate from your life. What do you need and what do you not? What is treasured and what should be tossed? It's a decision we need to always make in life. From deciding how to make more time in our days to prioritizing things in our life, there's always a bit of shredding going on in our lives. As I decide how to approach the school year and what I should be doing as I move forward, I'll continuously look at what I need to shred. This year, I am dedicating it to cutting back on a number of things and hopefully clearing out space physically, in my mind, and in my schedule to keep the core of what I actually need. Snipping out consumption here and there, cutting back on events, and more, will allow me to focus a bit more and make more room for things I want to do and accomplish. Often times, we don't shred an entire file of our lives, but within those files, there are things that we held on to that we can let go. Don't be afraid to do so. As we learn in economics, there are a limited amount of resources and thus, we need to learn how to we want to spend what we have. As I wrapped up my day, I decided that one way I wanted to spend my final day before school began is to cook a little meal that my family could enjoy. As I walked down the aisles, I didn't indulge at all, but rather, carefully picked out what I needed and went on my way. I passed by things that I really didn't need and only got the essentials to enjoy a wonderful meal. I took a final look at my documents for tomorrow, made a number of posts before I called it a night. I feel like everything is in order now, the only thing left to do is to keep my eyes open to cut things out to make my road ahead a little easier to travel on. Best of luck on your journey, especially to the teachers, staff and students who begin tomorrow!

~:[CH14 - Day 223]:~ The Deep Breath

~:[CH14 - Day 223]:~ The Deep Breath

I took a deep breath and took my stride forward. It was the first day of the newest chapter in my life. It was strange to be heading into the library for our first day, but this year, we opened with a collaborative meeting with Whitney at the city library. As you know, I am not the biggest fan of larger meetings, but to add in a group of those I don't know, it make me a bit more anxious. Of course, the anxiousness subsided as I focused on the material being discussed. Overall, although a bit lengthy, it was a nice refresher to remind us of various things we needed to focus on as the school year begins. I'll be taking this same deep breath on Wednesday as I meet my new class and do my best to transition into a new school year. What will be different? How quickly will time pass by? How will it all play out? The many questions we never will be able to answer until the time comes, will be thoughts that will run through my mind as tit all starts. I go into this year a little indifferent. Nothing feels like it stands out yet, but I know as the year goes on, the excitement for this and that will grow. There are many things that must be prepared as we start up the school year, but also many things I'll need to begin taking care of outside of school with a plate that has begun to overflow, which isn't quite a bad thing. For now, I'll take a deep breath and just hope that the road ahead will be clear and that I'll avoid the speed bumps, the detours, and the accidents that often impede our flow. There's so many things that life will throw at you, but you can't always be prepared for everything, so roll up your sleeves, take a deep breath and stride forward ready for what's ahead. We can do this!

~:[CH14 - Day 222]:~ How Much of Yourself?

~:[CH14 - Day 222]:~ How Much of Yourself?

I did a lot of resting today. I cleaned and I rested as I prepped for the days ahead. My sleep schedule has been a bit skewed and so I wonder how the days ahead will be. As I think about it, I think about work and life in general. As I watched the movie Glass Heart, I was moved by the overall story as it displayed the passion someone has for what they love, the love they have for people dear, and they answer a question of just how far someone will go for what they love. I wonder if the passion in my own life is creating. As I push my limits at times, there are moments where I wonder why am I do this, but others, where I get lost in the work that I do. During some shoots, the world slows down and I begin to see the numbers moving through my mind as a person moves to various points on stage, directing me what to change the settings to? Is this a result of an obsessive attention to details while taking photographs? Does losing track of time while editing a video or photos tie into this as well? As I watched the movie, I connected with it, not just because the music environment reminded me of various shoots I did along the way, but also because I know what it feels like to get lost in the process of creating. When it comes down to it though, you have to ask yourself, how much of yourself are you willing to give for what you love? When I think of passion, I am often reminded of my former MUN teachers Mr. Neville. In connecting with the storyline, I saw the passion exude from my teacher as he continued to push despite the pain and fatigue he must have been facing. I think experience it made me realize that when you love something, you're willing to get to that point of sacrificing everything to do what you love. Can you ignore a burning flame and passion in your heart even when it takes everything within you to tend to it? Regardless, as I watched Glass Heart, I was trapped by the story and the emotions contained within it, which helped me reflect on my own journey and made me wonder where I wanted to go from here. As we search for meaning in life, I think it all comes down to, what are the things that keep that flame within us burning and how much of ourselves do we want to dedicate towards it. For each of us, that answer is different, but I think the main thing to consider is that there is no right or wrong answer. Be true to yourself, decide for yourself, but most importantly, be yourself, as you push forward on this journey.

~:[CH14 - Day 221]:~ The Demons in Your Mind

~:[CH14 - Day 221]:~ The Demons in Your Mind

I finally watched KPOP Demon Hunters after hearing all about it, seeing a live cover of it, and even doing a photoshoot for it in Japan. Overall, I got the same vibe that most did as the music was catchy and the movie was easy to watch. However, the message that resonated towards the end of the movie is what really stuck with me. We all experiences those "demons" that live within us. We face challenges and difficulties in our life and there are things that cultivate within us that sometimes can be the things that limit our progress. Whether it's fear, stress, or worries among a slew of other things that it could be, those "demons" are sometimes debilitating and could be the thing that keeps us from where we want to go. Often times, when things in our life goes wrote, we feel like our life shatters as the song references. Sometimes it makes us act in a way to stops us from growing or even worse, break down. Often, we cannot go back and fix what started our problems, but we can focus on what we can change to make what's ahead better. Let's not hold those demons within and allow that shattered glass to cause us pain, but rather, let's release those demons and focus on how we can change the road that's ahead. On a day where I allowed myself to recover and recharge before the start of a new school year, I found myself inspired and looking towards way to move forward releasing all that is holding me back, so I can soar in start of a new school year. I'm hoping that we can all take a step forward without anything holding us back so that we can find a path ahead that is truly golden.

~:[CH14 - Day 220]:~ Transcend

~:[CH14 - Day 220]:~ Transcend

I wasn't feeling well, but well enough. In the morning, I actually had a good amount of energy, but as the day went on, I could feel the weight of fatigue fall on my shoulders as I stumbled into the finish line. I definitely enjoyed seeing the new features in Adobe Express as I thought about how I could use them, but still yet, my mind could not do much as when you're tired, you're just not as effective as you could be. I made it to practice in the morning before the PD, but I had to bail on the bonfire after as I took a nap, knowing all too well that my body needed it. Today's message was about transcending, but you also have to get a gauge on things in life to help you find the direction you need to go. Today, I took a little detour and listened to my body as I did what I needed to do and then let myself recover. Thinking about everything from athletics to academics and even life, we have to know that there are times where we will rise and other times, we need to be patient knowing that the timing just isn't right. I was inspired after watching of my students featured in the opening video talking about how he overcame his obstacles last year in MUN, but it also made me realize that as much as we want to get there, we have to prepare ourselves. Let's aim to transcend boundaries, but let's not be in a rush to fly, as we need to learn to do so when we are ready. Push your limits, but also know when you need to pull back a little to give yourself the time you need to gear up for liftoff. I felt rested by night's end and although I was a little bit sad that I missed out on what seemed like a great night for the ohana, I also knew that there will be another chance when the timing is right.

~:[CH14 - Day 219]:~ Until Exhaustion

~:[CH14 - Day 219]:~ Until Exhaustion

My mind has been all over the place, most likely because I have had a ton of things to do. I've mentioned before that when I have something to finish, my mind won't let me rest until it's done. I've had to take naps due to bad night's rest, but at least today, I wrapped up the majority of my projects. Thousand of clips later, I compiled my content into three artists highlights and two recp videos. I honestly could have made two to three more videos, but thought it was overkill. I also wrapped up my final post for La Bayadère, which came out beautifully. I purposely made it dark to give the mood and vibe of the story. I've worked until exhaustion and I only hope that means that I'll be able to sleep well. I guess I won't really know until tonight, but I wonder what thoughts and worries will keep me awake tonight to hinder my peaceful night's sleep. I hope you all don't find yourself in the same boat and are able to relax and work just hard enough, while finding the time to rest and relax, as life isn't just about working hard all the time. It's fine to occasionally work this hard, but because sure you leave time for yourself to do all the things you want to do.

~:[CH14 - Day 218]:~ Round & Round We Go

~:[CH14 - Day 218]:~ Round & Round We Go

With activities week in full swing, we joined up with the team for another event at John's Incredible Pizza. It was a relaxing evening at a fun place where you can eat to your heart's content and enjoy the games and rides. I enjoyed that a group of athletes went together and enjoyed the environment around as another year begins. It's crazy how quickly time flies by and how things cycle through year after year. As I spent most of the day prepping documents and paperwork for the upcoming Great Cow Run, I also had some time to just think about what's ahead as we begin a new cycle in life. As while often times many things stay the same as we circle around, sometimes things (or even we) change as we cycle through life without us noticing it. As we go around for another cycle of life, I hope we can pay attention to what changes as we circle around so we can appreciate those changes or halt them before they become something we don't want them to manifest into. it was fun to spend time with the team and make some progress on what I needed to do, but I still need to get into stride as I head into this new cycle. As while I often am in stride when things get going, I found myself stumbling out of the block a bit. It's nothing that is a big deal, but something I hope to tackle early on so that this ride can go as smooth as possible! Here's to another year!

~:[CH14 - Day 217]:~ Connections

~:[CH14 - Day 217]:~ Connections

I was working most of the night so I ended up not really sleeping before practice as we ran at Sunset Beach. It was a little strange being there on a weekday, but we got our workout in and then headed off on our way. I think it's practices like these that bring the team together the most and make it the strongest, more than any other workout could. A difficult workout is great, but being able to push and rely on each other is more important; The stronger your connections with those around you, the more motivated it makes you to work to find success and/or happiness. I ended up getting some sleep before heading to the Angels game as they celebrated Korean Heritage Night. I enjoyed the pre-game performance as it allowed people to connect with the Korean culture. It also was cool to see an array of people enjoying the experience as they connected with their own roots or learned about a culture that wasn't theirs. I think it's important that we continue to support and rely on each other as culture is something that is meant to be shared. They always say that good food brings people together, but that good food often stems from the culture that is meant to be shared. Our world is filled with hate and violence, but as we share our culture and soak in the cultures of others, we learn to be more tolerant, accepting, and hopefully we can contribute to society in a way that makes it a better place. "Leave it better than how you found it," is a common phrase that is often heard when in nature, but why can't it also be something that we hear in life. Let's build our connections and trust in each other and use that to motivate each other to make an effort to improve the world around us. As while we can turn a blind eye to all that is going on, the longer we allow it to exist, the more likely our connections to each other will begin to weaken. Trust each other, believe in each other, and rely on each other. Trust our connections to hold first when even the greatest storms appear on our doorstep, as if we do a good enough job strengthening it during the good and calm times, the better able it will be ready for the challenging times. At the end of the day, the Angels lost and I was exhausted as I arrived home, but I thought about the great connections I have and those that I witnessed and it gave me hope that we can get this world back on track when we begin to find a way to build our connections, together.

~:[CH14 - Day 216]:~ On Target

~:[CH14 - Day 216]:~ On Target

Bowling is a sport that requires a lot more skill than you can imagine. From the movement of your hand on release, to weight transfer, and knowing how to adjust to the oil on the lane, there are a lot of elements you need to think about when taking on the sport. Of course, when you're out enjoying your time, you don't have to worry about it as much, still yet, if you want to have fun and do well, trying to be on target will help you get there. I guess that's like life. There are a lot of factors that can help us find success in life or allow it to take us where we want to go and we have to decide, how much of it we're going to take on. Do we want to master life and trying to perfect it, do we want to enjoy it, or do we want to find that balance to ensure that we can be successful, yet still enjoy what life has to offer. We find our target and we do our best to aim at it. We're not always going to hit the bullseye, but when we do, it feels great and it leads us to the next target we should aim for. When we miss, it's easy to get mad and frustrated, but maybe we can also find a way to resolve our problems by adjusting or refocusing completely. Regardless of what we, I hope we can find a balance that allows us to hit the target often, yet still enjoy what life has to offer. While I missed the target in the morning after a comfortable night's sleep, I got myself up and enjoyed spending time with the team as they found that balance between the hard work that comes with sport and the bonding that makes the sport enjoyable. They may not grow up to become professional bowlers or even runners, but that doesn't mean that they're not on target for their goals. For each of us, we have our own targets and our own goals. Let now our goals or satisfaction or reaching our goals be changed by those around us, rather, let's make sure we focus on our our own journey and our own target of what we call success.

~:[CH14 - Day 215]:~ Coincidentally

~:[CH14 - Day 215]:~ Coincidentally

Today was filled with a number of crazy moments. Long ago, I attended a JO1 performance online when virtual KCON was a thing. I wanted to listen to this Japanese group who was intertwined in the KPOP world. Fast forward a few years and when I was heading home from Osaka, in the lounge just at the next table, was the same group. I didn't bother them, but was amazed at the timing. I didn't quite put two and two together until I arrived in LA and they were there as well. We were on the same flight headed to KCON. I ended up at their stage and my comment about this incident was mentioned, which was kind of cool. In this world, I wonder if they are coincidences. Are we placed in certain places or positions because of fate or do we end up where we are due to a series of events like those old "choose your own adventure" books. I had a series of ups and downs throughout the day as I encountered some challenges during the day, yet also some fabulous moments I'll appreciate down the line. I wonder if these experiences will lead me to a new adventure or if they'll slowly fade into oblivious. Regardless, momentarily, it was cool to have a brief interactions, although slightly embarrassing, during the event where I often rather blend in than stand out. My body was exhausted by the end of the weekend and I hoped to just sleep for awhile, but I also wondered before I slept, what will happen tomorrow, coincidentally. I guess that's the adventure in life, we never really know what awaits us on that next page. We'll just have to wait to find out.

~:[CH14 - Day 214]:~ Centerstage

~:[CH14 - Day 214]:~ Centerstage

It's easy to criticize the performance of someone on stage when watching any performance, but if you really think about it, imagine what it took for them to get there and to get recognized, especially in the world of KPOP. I admire how much work that all these artists put in even if they don't end up with a chart-topping hit or even if they fizzle out. It can bring disappointment if that happens, but for most, this never happens at all. For each us, let's be proud of where we get to and alsl where others around us get to. While we may fizzle out in the process of reaching our goals, it doesn't mean we were a disappointment at all. I'm sure there are things in life that we wanted to accomplish, but I hope we can appreciate the fact that we made progress in some way. As I watched all of these talented individuals, at times, I may have looked at their dancing skills or listening to the notes they hit, I hoped to appreciate their efforts in getting here and celebrating their performance. I hope we can continue to make the effort to applaud effort even when we or those around us don't quite get to where we hope to be, as it's worth of applause when you are aiming to find that centerstage and have your moment in that spotlight.

~:[CH14 - Day 213]:~ The Long Haul

~:[CH14 - Day 213]:~ The Long Haul

I almost considered skipping this weekend since I felt the exhaustion and found difficulty adjusting. I decided to go. I actually slept well, which bored well for the marathon weekend. You have to sometimes ask yourself if it's worth it and when I thought about it all, it definitely had its value and so I decided to take it on. I figured out my plan and my body held up better than expected. I ended up pretty happy with the overall experience and what I accomplished today, but I was also reminded that it was only 1/3 of the way to the finish line. Throughout the day, I ended up meeting a few new people, but most of the time, I just observed and wondered about the world around me that I never knew. When you're on a long journey, there are a lot of opportunities to learn, to meet people, and to gain new experiences, the question is, what do you want to do during that long haul. As much as you always want to focus on the end goal, when the journey is this grueling, be open to the possibilities that are available to help making it not be so wearing on the body. Best of long to everyone on the long haul.
