~:[CH14 - Day 365]:~ Cheers to 2025

~:[CH14 - Day 365]:~ Cheers to 2025

My busiest year by far, but it could also be considered the greatest. As I sent out messages at the end of the year, I realized how many connections I had made. I was happy to be able to work with many of those who I've already established a connection with while making new ones in the process. It was difficult since my schedule was already overloaded, but it was worth every moment. As I look back, I appreciate the experiences I had, as I truly believe that you need to make them when the opportunity comes. I got lucky in a few instances and missed other opportunities, but that's part of life. I truly believe everything happens for a reason and while 2025 gave me opportunities, it also showed me what I need to work on in 2026. There are many ways that I can improve myself and figure out a way to be the best version of myself. There are a lot of things I figured out in 2025, but there are also so many more things I need to learn in 2026. It's a process and while the new year doesn't mean we have to start fresh, it's an opportunity to change things up and figure out what direction we want to go from here. Today ended up being quite different than year's past. We kept it fairly mellow and I went out to grab a quick drink before heading home to wrap up my final projects for the year. As while there already is a lot of work to do going into the new year, I look forward to what I can accomplish, how I can learn and grow, and ultimately, how to mold myself into a version of myself that I strive to become. By year's end, this process won't be complete, but each and every year, we look at what we've been working on, re-evaluate and then get back to work. As usual, I won't make a specific resolution for the new year as I think this process is always on going, but I will work on pushing forward and doing what I can to make myself better. Thank you again for always being there to lend a hand in the process and I look forward to all the great memories we can share in the coming year. Wishing you all a happy and health 2026!

~:[CH14 - Day 364]:~ A Storybook Ending

~:[CH14 - Day 364]:~ A Storybook Ending

I wasn't sure how this week would work out. There wasn't much of a plan originally, but I pieced things together and made it work. As I looked at the albums on my computer, I was amazed that within just a few days, we ventured around LA, Orange County and San Diego, as well as Las Vegas and Arizona. I wasn't sure if I could hold up, but I did and in the end, we closed out our adventure in a castle in Las Vegas. Excalibur isn't seen as a fancy Vegas hotel, but I think it was the most fitting for our final day together before they spent their final days in downtown. It was fun to spend so much time together and although I get to see them every year, it was fun to talk even more and have longer days than we would have had previously. I was glad they go to check a lot of items off their list and see things that they can tell their friends about. When they return to Japan, I hope that there will be many stories to tell and this story will end up being one that they can remember for a long time coming. While we didn't hit and huge jackpots, we came back with the things that are most valuable, good memories and experiences. Money can buy a lot of things, but it can't buy the most precious things. The past few days have been amazing and I truly am glad that these days will be written on the pages of my own story, alongside theirs. I hope that each of us have wonderful things to share on the pages of our story and that the journey, although at times arduous, ends with happiness and lasting precious memories.

~:[CH14 - Day 363]:~ The Greatest Views on Earth

~:[CH14 - Day 363]:~ The Greatest Views on Earth

There are some great views in this country. When I took my road trip around Utah's Might 5, I saw many of them. As I've traveled around from state to state, I've collected a number of beautiful images to store away in my mind. However, the  Grand Canyon ranks up there as one of the most beautiful views I've captured in my mind. While I do prefer the south rim, with only about a day, it was unreasonable to trek that way. We set off early and headed straight to Arizona. The first stop is a bit meh in my opinion, but they were still in awe of the beautiful canyon. However, by the second stock, they were truly impressed. Their eyes lit up as one called his friend to show him the view. During the drive, I was a bit tired and it felt a little isolated as they had fallen asleep, still yet, I used the time to reflect on many of the great places I've visited in my life and the many memories I collected. As I passed by the Hoover Dam or stopping at Barstow Station, a number of memories pass through my mind combined with some of the great views I've been able to see. Today, aside from simply the scenery, the eyes of them both was a view I'll never forget. When someone truly appreciates what they are able to do or see, it's evident and it's quite the memorable moment. My heart was overflowing already, but the views of the Strip also left them in awe as we walked from hotel to hotel before enjoying some time relaxing. It was a day of great views and memorable moments, but as I said, the greatest view was the view of their faces as they soaked in the beauty that surrounded them. At times in life, money is tight and we can't always do everything we want to do, however, we can do what we can to give those around us experiences that will fill their hearts with joy and create memorable experiences they'll never forget as those are truly the greatest views on Earth.

~:[CH14 - Day 362]:~ LA Style

~:[CH14 - Day 362]:~ LA Style

I got to rest in the morning as they setup other plans. I met them later that afternoon. It was great to see them connect with so many people while they were here and this is another one of those days. As we've talked about LA, Kansai, and Tokyo over the past few days, today showed the LA vibe as the warm weather and In-n-Out proved to be the perfect combo to exemplify LA. They enjoyed their burgers and time together as they adapted to the warmer-than-expected temperatures as one of them exclaimed, "this is weather in June in Kansai." It's true that we often get that kind of weather year round (although we've had some rainy weather as of late). We ventured through various shops before establishing one final connection as their time in the area came to a close. It's truly been a fun adventure around here as they got to true LA welcome of burgers and sunshine, but soon we'll be off to explore, showing them more of what the US has to offer.

~:[CH14 - Day 361]:~ The Unexpected Curve

~:[CH14 - Day 361]:~ The Unexpected Curve

It was another early morning rise as we headed up the hill to the Hollywood sign. I was a bit worried that it would be muddy, so we prepped "junk" shoes, but it ended up being just fine. We made it up and back in good time and were able to arrive at the bowling alley early. I've wanted to bowl here for sometime and this ended up being a good opportunity to do so. I didn't realize that on the older lanes, my ball (which typically doesn't curve too much), ended up taking a sharp left hook. It threw me off and it was hard to adjust, but I put my ball away and just enjoyed the time. It was fun to do various things and venture around LA, showing these two around and connecting them with each other. In life, things don't always work out how we want them too as we're thrown that unexpected curve, but that is why it's even more important to make the most of your best moments and connect with people that can help uplift you when you need it the most. We all have those days where we will struggle, but do you best to focus and you may just end up having those tougher moments fall back into the shadows, as unexpected moments come to the forefront.

~:[CH14 - Day 360]:~ Escaping the Storm

~:[CH14 - Day 360]:~ Escaping the Storm

We were about ten minutes in the drive and I almost was ready to call it quits and turn around. It was a little sketchy on the road, but just as I thought about it, it cleared up. I escaped. Down south, the clouds loomed, but it stayed mostly dry as we enjoyed the many sites of San Diego while escaping the storm back at home. It was fabulous. At times in life, there is a storm raging, but what we fail to see is the bigger picture. That storm may just be in a portion of our life, while in its entirety, we actually are in good shape. Things may be going well is so many other facets, yet we often can't see that when a storm in raging in one area. Yes, the drive home also had its miserable moments, but I arrived back safely and was glad we got to enjoy the many sites of San Diego. There are so many beautiful places to visit in the area and we were able to hit up quite a few in the six hours or so that we spent in the city. In life, don't miss out on the beautiful things because we are overcome by the storms in life. Deal with these storms as best as possible, but also find those pockets in life where there are things to celebrate and pockets of light that shine through the clouds overhead. As while the storm may unavoidable, it doesn't mean we simply have to sit in it, rather we can find a way to escape the storm and truly appreciate the other areas in our life where the storm has yet to reach.

~:[CH14 - Day 359]:~ The Chase Card

~:[CH14 - Day 359]:~ The Chase Card

I opened a booster box today. I didn't get anything. I missed anything decent and of course, that means I didn't get my chase card. In every set, there is something someone eyes, just like in every facet of life, there is something someone is chasing. We can't always get what we want, but we can do our best to maneuver our way to give ourselves the best opportunity possible. Whether or not we ever uncover that chase card in our lifetime remains to be seen, however, the process will become a part of us. Hopefully, the process allows us to learn and grow and find the things that matter in life, just the ability to chase. As my niece and nephew opened their gifts, I caught this image since I gave him one of his chase cards. With a Pokemon filled gift, I know he'll enjoy a lot of it for now until this phase is over (if it ever ends). Then, he'll be onto the next. Regardless, I only hope that they both find something to chase after and learn to do what they can to reach their goals in all facets of their life, much like I hope will be the case for all of you. Hoping you all had a wonderful Christmas day for all those who celebrate and also, hoping you recover from the exhaustion of this holiday season!

~:[CH14 - Day 358]:~ As Long as We're Together

~:[CH14 - Day 358]:~ As Long as We're Together

I always am so thankful when we arrive at this point in the year realize how lucky I am to be surrounded with such a wonderful family. As I look around the room when we are gathered, I am surrounded by some of the most kind-hearted, selfless, and genuine people. As we assemble together for our annual family party, everyone does their part to make it happen. We have our traditions of Santa, gift exchange and Bingo to add with the time we get to spend together. It takes a village and when you have a village of people like those who surround me, it makes life easy. I am definitely privileged and while I may not drive a luxury car, I enjoy some of the best luxuries that money can never buy. As I leave the house each year, I am often saddened that it may be some time before I see everyone again, but I know that each year, I get to look forward to the time we get to spend together. No matter how difficult life gets, as long as we're together, I know that I can weather any storm, as I know that I am lucky to have such a wonderful support system around me who helped make me into the person I am today. As I finished the day a little exhausted from all the festivities, I smiled knowing just how blessed I truly am. Hopefully you all have a great system of people around you who can make your days brighter and if not, I hope you can find and connect with those who can provide you with that because at the end of the day, when you have that, everything is going to be alright. Happy Holidays!

~:[CH14 - Day 357]:~ The Last Bit of Sunlight

~:[CH14 - Day 357]:~ The Last Bit of Sunlight

With so much to do, I was debating between staying home to get work done or to head out to the golf course. Since I made the commitment, I decided to go to the course as the dark skies loomed overhead. There was a bit of drizzle and made me worry that we might got rained on, but it held off and aside from a few sprinkles and some mud around the course, the conditions themselves fared well. After not playing for a long time, I actually was playing decently well. I can't say that for my driver, but some of my irons and my short game was still intact. I even got a birdie during the round. We played until the very last ounce of sunlight appeared and escaped before the darkness took over. I zoomed over the La Habra to catch the boys play Sonora and even though I had a lot to do, I didn't regret taking the time to enjoy the day and also attend the game. The winter provides us with short days, but as we progress and get older, our days also seem to get a bit shorter. I hope in our lives we are able to squeeze out every last bit of sunlight so that we make the most of our days on this earth While tomorrow seems close, we never know when that tomorrow will disappear. As I looked at the beautiful reflection in the pond, I wondered what life would look like when I look at it and reflect upon it in the future. Regardless of how things turn out, I think I'll be happy if I know that I squeezed out every last bit of sunlight from my days on this planet.

~:[CH14 - Day 356]:~ Wrapped & Ready

~:[CH14 - Day 356]:~ Wrapped & Ready

There's one thing I didn't have a lot of in 2025, free time. Most of it was by choice as I took on various shoots and projects here and there, but it took its toll on my organization at home. As I tackled the large piles that stacked up over the year, I made a lot of progress and even got to packing and wrapping most of my presents for the year. It's a chaotic time, but it's also an exciting time as I look forward to seeing the many friends and family I haven't seen for some time. It was a little rough because I missed a lot of events through the year, but hopefully, I haven't lost the chance to connect one last time in 2025. I'm beginning to prep and I feel wrapped and ready for this final countdown as the final count towards the next year has found its way to single digits. I cooked a nice meal for my family to celebrate my freedom and progress today, as I they regained focused and got back to work. How are you final days of 2025 looking?

~:[CH14 - Day 355]:~ Cleaning Out the Closet

~:[CH14 - Day 355]:~ Cleaning Out the Closet

It was about six years ago that I bought this card. I was searching online, buying Ohtani inventory here and there believing in his potential. He was coming off of Tommy John surgery so his value took a hit, but I still believed and collected cards here and there. When cleaning, I discovered what I had purchased over the years and was appreciative of my belief in him. However, cleaning isn't always about discovering gems that have monetary value, rather, it's about uncovering things you have forgotten about. Aside from the value of the card, the story behind it has just as much value. Just as a sentimental card, a drawing, a souvenir, and other mementos discovered in the process, there was a lot of value discovered during  day where I was cleaning and working on catching up with uploading albums. I made a lot of progress today, but I also did a lot of reminiscing as I searched through a pile of things, many of which I have long forgotten. My cleaning journey will continue so I wonder what I will find in the days ahead, but for now, I'll hold onto the memories I already recovered and look forward to remembering much, much more.

~:[CH14 - Day 354]:~ In a Flash

~:[CH14 - Day 354]:~ In a Flash

One of my alumni messaged me today asking where I was at. They were at the reunion and I was invited to it. Unfortunately, I was going to the GYM RAT Challenge at our school with a media day scheduled with the girls team. It was a must as there was only so much time left before I needed to complete the starting lineup videos for the season. Time flies so quickly whether it be from day to day or from year to year. Deadlines come up quickly, but time also passes by just as quick over the years. Another alumni messaged me talking about how quickly time has passed by, as it felts like it happened in just a flash. To watch my little cousin out on the floor playing for our school seemed surreal as it was just yesterday that I remember her playing for city league. Time flies by so quickly so cherish each moment and appreciate the time you have on this earth as time will be gone in a flash. Your time on this earth is precious so treasure each moment as if it was your last.

~:[CH14 - Day 353]:~ In the Design

~:[CH14 - Day 353]:~ In the Design

I finally got around to opening my packs of the Mega Dream set from Japan. It's one of the most beautifully designed sets and in my first booster box, I pulled this beautiful Gengar along with a number of other good pulls. When I think about how I view things, visuals is a big key. As I wrapped up another post today, I really put a lot of effort into the visuals of it and when I look back at it, I was happy with how it came out, which is why I think this set of Pokemon cards appeals to me. They put a lot of attention to the details and that's definitely a big key in drawing interests to this set. As I wrapped up the final tasks in my classroom, I got to come home and work on a few things including my Japanese. However, I also neglected a lot of things during my first moments of break. I guess this student-free day was a lot more relaxing by design, but by night's end, I realized that maybe I should have accomplished a little more today. I guess that's a problem I will tackle tomorrow, but for now, I'll just say good night knowing I added this beauty to my collection today and I'll be on my first full day of break starting tomorrow.

~:[CH14 - Day 352]:~ Just Give It Your All

~:[CH14 - Day 352]:~ Just Give It Your All

The basketball team has faced some struggles. Half their team has been out and even with a few returning tonight, they still had a full lineup missing from their roster. They were outmatched, but they never let up. They actually jumped out to a lead to start the game, but slowly lost footing as they went. In the end, they fell short, but what I truly was impressed by is that they gave it their all. They never backed down and they kept pushing forward, trying everything they could until the very last minute. Today was the last day of school with students, so there was a bit of a reason to celebrate although today may have been even rougher of a school day than yesterday. Once again, I felt a bit rushed and overwhelmed, especially with dealing with a few things during the break. Still yet, I did what I could and managed to survived. I gave it my all this week as I balanced the final week of school with a number of on going projects. Tomorrow will be a nice relaxing day as I can move at my own pace undistracted, but for today, my measurement of success for myself and the team is that we both gave it all our until the very end.

~:[CH14 - Day 351]:~ Too Good To Be True

~:[CH14 - Day 351]:~ Too Good To Be True

It was a much needed meal at the end of a rough day. Day one of finals went smoothly, but day two, was a little rough. For some reason, I felt overwhelmed with grading, organizing and planning for the conferences in January. There was so much to take care of and the day was even shorter than normal, thus causing this sensation of being overwhelmed. I guess yesterday set an expectation that I could feel relaxed during finals, but I guess it was too good to be true. Of course, I survived and I got to enjoy a wonderful meal with a friend as we caught up and chatted about this and that. We didn't talk about anything specific, but just the fact that I had time to sit down and eat with someone without too many worries made it wonderful. I came home to wrap up the media from this weekend's events which were met with great praise. I was happy since there were a number of high profile performers in this cast and to get rave reviews from them made me happy. While the day started off rough, it improved and maybe by day's end, I found that zone of comfort I had yesterday. Who knows what tomorrow will bring, but for now, I'll enjoy this ending wave that carried me to the finish line.

~:[CH14 - Day 350]:~ From the Heart

~:[CH14 - Day 350]:~ From the Heart

I really appreciate it when someone puts a lot of thought into their gifts. I don't need anything expensive, rather, when there is a lot of thought put into a gift and it's from the heart, its value is immeasurable. One of my athlete put together a little gift and I really liked it. It was simple, but thoughtful and I think that my favorite gifts fall in this category. I am privileged to have most things that I need in life, thus, I think I've put more weight on things that are sentimental. I've kept every letter and card I've received in my lifetime (as far as I can remember) and while they may be stashed away, they still are important to me. This is another item I'll put in that memory box full of the many treasures I've collected in my lifetime. One day I'll open it up and see all the blessing I've received in my lifetime. As while commercials will remind you to buy this and buy that this holiday, don't forget to include that heart-filled message reminding those around you about how they've been a blessing in your life. As for me, receiving something like that would be the best gift anyone could ask for.

~:[CH14 - Day 349]:~ Impressed

~:[CH14 - Day 349]:~ Impressed

I always set stern guidelines when finals come around. I give the class deadlines for late work, deadlines to correct errors, and more. I think setting those boundaries is important to stay sane as a teacher, otherwise, you'll get bombarded with requests. Despite a focused and serious demeanor today, I truly was uplifted when I came across this extra credit assignment. One student took some time to draw a number of images to create this country brochure. There are many moments while teaching where you get frustrated or disappointed, but it's moments like these when you are uplifting, knowing that that there is hope after all. With finals rolling around, the final wrap up of the year will begin and while it's a stressful time for students, often, for a teacher, it's actually a bit more relaxing. There is a little less to worry about aside from grading as long as you have all your ducks in a row. Today, I wrapped up grading, reviewing anything submitted late, and correcting any errors. The end of 2025 is closing in and the stress of it all is starting to disappear like the marine layer in the morning. Slowly, but surely, I can see the finish line and I am excited for a little break from it all.

~:[CH14 - Day 348]:~ Attention to Detail

~:[CH14 - Day 348]:~ Attention to Detail

After a late shoot, we woke up again in the morning to head out to downtown to shoot again! It was cold last night, but just as bitterly cold this morning. Imagine trying to twirl a baton. Now, imagine trying to do that when the weather dips below 20. However, despite the challenge, there were few mistakes and he stayed focus. I could only imagine how difficult it is for him to focus as he has to live away from his family a lot as he travels across the world for months at a time. After a few weeks in Tennessee, this weekend was his first time in downtown and he loved it. We captured a lot of amazing footage and I got to see up close, the attention to detailed required for his craft. It's always a pleasure to witness what each artist has to go through to stay on their game. From dealing with the elements to upkeeping their body, there are so many things that one must do to be a master at their craft. For Issei, on top all the shows (five in two days), he was able to do two shoots with me, workout, and even stay on top of his social media. It's such a load, but he managed it well and even with a smile. At times, I felt like I was inconveniencing him as I came during a time with five shows, but he never let that show, as he was always up for the challenge and was excited to explore the city for the first time. When you meet people like this, it's motivating as you realize you can do more to fine tune your own craft and make it so that you come closer to perfection. I closed out the short weekend by catching one last show before rushing to the airport to find out that my flight was delayed. Fearing I'd miss my flight, I talked to the staff who actually got me on a delayed direct flight that got me in earlier than expected. I guess my weekend was truly blessed as all worked out as I rolled on home after an incredible 48 hours.

~:[CH14 - Day 347]:~ The Greatest Show on Earth ...

~:[CH14 - Day 347]:~ The Greatest Show on Earth ...

It's really cool to cover a variety of shows as you get to meet a number of amazing artists. Of course, you do meet some you'll never work with again, but the majority of people you meet are truly amazing! Growing up, I always associated the circus with the greatest show on earth, but this show truly was dazzling! I got to meet two Japanese artists who were on America's Got Talent and another who was on Japan's Got Talent, who also was the world's baton champion. I met an array of people with such a variety of skills from acrobatics to magic, juggling and more. In just the short span of a day and a half, I made some great connections and it made me happy that I decided to take this trek. I almost didn't make it out as my flight was late and my connection was tight, but someone was looking over me as the other plane was delayed and so I made it with ease. Everything went smoothly from start to finish and although I was tired after taking a red eye, covering three shows, and doing a night shoot after, it truly was one heck of an amazing day. My body was frozen by the time I got back to the hotel. However, all the struggles that went into today were worth it, as all the experiences I had in just this one day were truly irreplaceable. Take that chance as you never know what you'll discover!

~:[CH14 - Day 346]:~ Be More Spontaneous

~:[CH14 - Day 346]:~ Be More Spontaneous

If you read through my old blogs, you'll come across one with a fortune cookie that said, "be spontaneous." I thought I might have been before, but I think it's even more so the case now. In a last minute decision, I looked at my calendar and figured out when I could head out to cover this show, "Pomp, Snow & CIRQUEumstance," which had an artist who I've been trying to coordinate with. He said, "I'll be in the US." Little did I realize that it was all the way in Nashville. Strangely, looking at the schedules, it seemed like things would work out, so I coordinate with him and the company and headed out to to Tennessee after work. It was definitely spontaneous. Who knows how this trip will end up going, but what I do know is that it will be another one for the memory book, knowing that I went out on a limb wondering what I could find. Whether the branch breaks and I land on my behind or if I see sights I could never imagined will be determined soon, but I doubt I'll regret this decision as I still live by the motto that a fortune cookie delivered to me a long time ago. Have you ever had a fortune that rang true in your life?

~:[CH14 - Day 345]:~ This is How I Survived

~:[CH14 - Day 345]:~ This is How I Survived

I download Japanese phrases when I come across them, but this one came at the perfect time. Just as I wrapped up the busy season (or so I thought), I realized that I survived it by focusing on a little bit at a time. Just like you aren't going to eat a burger in a single bite, you need to take life slowly and take it one bite at a time. Don't bite off more than you chew as sometimes, pacing yourself is half the battle. I did that and crossed the finish line. I thought today would feel relaxing, but with conference signups, packet pickups and finals upcoming, today was a lot more chaotic than I originally planned. Still yet, I'll focus on this motto and take each step one at a time until I cross that finish line. When life feels overwhelming, repeat this to yourself, sukoshi zutsu de ii, and it may just help you to keep your cool and cross that finish line with ease. You got this!

~:[CH14 - Day 344]:~ A View from the Perch

~:[CH14 - Day 344]:~ A View from the Perch

It was very strange. I did everything I typically do for a banquet, aside from preparing to speak. Usually, I spend four hours at the microphone and feeling just a little off, I was glad that I didn't have to. While the stress level subsided once everything was setup, I still popped in from time to time to make sure things were running smoothly and on time and by night's end, we wrapped up my first banquet with a view from the perch. It was cool to watch other people talk, as I got to focus on taking pictures and enjoying the night. Although part of me wish I could say a few things about the athletes, the other part of me knew that this was the final step in the transition. What will change over time? Who knows, however, for now, I'll look back and appreciate that we made it through the season. There were definitely some ups and downs through the year, but understanding that things won't always be perfect is definitely important. One day, I will fly away from that perch for good, but for the time being, I enjoyed the view from here. I was just exhausted by night's end, the unpacking didn't change, but of course the sense of something different definitely existed, yet it wasn't necessarily bad. Life is full of changes and we have to learn to adapt to them and tonight was one of those steps in my own life where I begin that pivot. Ohana is forever, as I soaked in the final messages from the long line of seniors who wanted to speak, remembering the many other seniors who stepped to this podium over the years. Things have changed, yet many other things have stayed the same and for me, the only thing that has changed for now is the view.

~:[CH14 - Day 343]:~ Just a Snippet

~:[CH14 - Day 343]:~ Just a Snippet

I think what's interesting about the news, TV shows, and the movies is that the crop life and narrow it down to just a few seconds, minutes, or hours. What do they show? They often show things that are part of the main storyline or plot, the exciting moments at the climax of the story, or the conclusion that everyone waits for. As I go home to grind away for another evening, the majority of what I will do tonight will not be known. Most of it won't be posted online and nobody will truly know what goes on behind the scenes. With a Pepsi in hand, I focused in and try to wrap up this video in preparation for tomorrow and sat down to sort files while the computer rendered. I don't care if people see the work that I put in, but I want them to understand that when you take on a responsibility, it takes a lot of dedication and sacrifice to make all things come together. They don't just magically happen, you need to make it happen. I wish that media would show more of what it takes to get to a point, rather than just the highlights, as I think it would be an important lesson for the youth when they take on a task. It will take time, it will take energy, and it will take you going above and beyond to wrap it all up. By night's end, I was a little behind of where I should be to be cruising in, but also on pace to finish before banquet's start. It's always tough to predict just where I will be at, but after dealing with all the glitches, delays, and obstacles, I am just a few steps from the finish line, ready to enjoy at least a little time before I get back to work. In the end, the video will be shown, but the video is just a snippet of the whole process it took to get there. Regardless how exhausting it was, however, I truly enjoyed the ride.

~:[CH14 - Day 342]:~ Snapshots

~:[CH14 - Day 342]:~ Snapshots

My friend sent me a picture while on vacation in Japan. The family traveled north and took a quick weekend stay. The beautiful image made me scroll through my camera roll, remembering the beautiful days that have passed me by. Life is full of numerous snapshots that quickly come and go. The beautiful, the dark, the colorful, the simple, and much, much more. Each snapshot makes up our collage of life that we collect as we travel through this world. As I hibernated inside editing my night away for the banquet, I wished to be a this very spot seeing this beautiful view, however, this image was not apart of my life's collage and I'm okay with that. Someone else's piece may not be the right fit for my collage or that piece may come at a later time. I'll appreciate the snapshots of my own life and enjoy sharing them with friends and as my friend shared with me.

~:[CH14 - Day 341]:~ A Short Timeout

~:[CH14 - Day 341]:~ A Short Timeout

I really didn't have time today, but I took a short timeout to watch the opening day of SEYO. It was cool to see them grow from the very start and now to see how far they've come since they started is amazing. They were able to nail some shots from the outside, make most of their layups, and get block after block. It was cool to see how they've progressed and worth the timeout. There were things I needed to do, but I knew there were moments that would never come again, which is why I stepped out for just a bit. I came home and got right back to work and almost got to where I wanted to be by the evening, but I smiled knowing that I was able to catch this first because I took that timeout. In life, we often want to go with the flow and let things playout, but it's okay to take that timeout in life, when opportunity allows you. Hopefully, everything will play out well as I am trying to overcome a greater number of glitches than I faced in the past, however, regardless of how the outcome is, I still wouldn't have changed the plan for today. Congrats to all the SEYO athletes on their first games of the season and please wish me luck over the course of the next three days.

~:[CH14 - Day 340]:~ Rolling Out of Bed

~:[CH14 - Day 340]:~ Rolling Out of Bed

Not going to lie, today was one of the hardest days to drag myself out of bed. With the combination of the schedule and all the prep for the banquet, my body was telling me, just stay in bed. My alarm sounded though and I headed to school. It was Mira Costa! I always enjoy coming here to see our students level up. It can get a little discouraging and they often just miss out on an award, but we had a number of students get awards this year, which was a nice way to close out conferences for 2025. Award or not, I love the energy that the freshman had in committee as they worked hard to do well and improve. For over a month, we've been warning them that if they wanted to do well here, they needed to prepare. I guess a lot of them heeded that advice and did well. Although my fatigue really caught up to me around 2:30pm, it was worth every ounce of energy I expended to be there to witness a great performance from them. I later found out that my family would be visiting tonight. My body protested though and while I lasted for a bit, I ended up knocking out for a little before getting back to work. This time of year always has round the clock work, but the feeling when it's all over is quite amazing. With each check of a box, my smile grows slightly larger until it's time to relax and enjoy. With just a few more days until the big day, I will keep my motivation up by remembering that wonderful feeling when I cross the finish line. Today, my freshman crossed that finish line, excelling beyond my expectations, making me glad I rolled out of bed this morning.

~:[CH14 - Day 339]:~ In the Spirit

~:[CH14 - Day 339]:~ In the Spirit

At the last minute, I ended up heading to Intuit. Originally it wasn't in the plan, as I needed to res f, however, with my computer still processing, I ended up heading over. I only had to stay for the village, but ended up going to both. I can't say it was the right decision as I left early, still yet, it's still worth the experience. The village show was actually my favorite part of the night. It was great to see many of the performers I have seen before and also a few new performers. While I may never make an effort to listen to some of them again, it's always a joy to be apart of the process. While there weren't as many Christmas songs as I thought there would be, I still enjoyed it and it helped put me in the spirit.

~:[CH14 - Day 338]:~ Overcoming Challenges

~:[CH14 - Day 338]:~ Overcoming Challenges

Fatigue hut hard, but I powered through. There are days it's necessary and today was one of those. For my underclassmen, this unit is challenging as well. Not only do they have to do something that most are unable to do, they have to coordinate and teach each other in then process. It's fun to watch as you see who the leaders are and who really focuses in on the task at hand. I had a lot to do when I got home, but I kept the same mindset and trying to focus in and finish what I needed to do. The youth need this process as they see life as something with quick solutions and don't always understand the process of the grind. There are few shortcuts in this process and so it's fun to see how they react and discover what each of them are made of.

~:[CH14 - Day 337]:~ Luxurious?

~:[CH14 - Day 337]:~ Luxurious?

I got into a debate with my friend today. After a meeting full of meetings, I headed to Shinjuku and enjoyed a number of things I missed as I now live across town. As we were chatting, he wanted me to join him at Louis Vuitton and I shook my head, no. I am not someone who looks at or considers luxury brands. He wanted a scarf and I rather get a scarf at the street vendor. I work with a lot of people who work in the industry of appearances, so I get it, but for me personally, I've never been inclined unless it has some special function. There's nothing wrong if you want to live a life of luxuious brands, but I rather avoid the luxury lifestyle and find more opportunities to experience things around me. I realized more today how frugal I am, as I opted for a cheap final meal and my friend gave me a small bowl of eel to wrap up my trek, but I guess today reminded me how different all of our perceptions in life are and that's okay. He went on his way and we linked up for a bit later. He ended up not getting the scarf as my $10 scarf kept me warm in the wind. Even without breaking the bank, I had what I needed and ended the day satisfied. Luxury brand or not, as long as it's satisfactory for you, then it's all right in the end!

~:[CH14 - Day 336]:~ The Sights to See

~:[CH14 - Day 336]:~ The Sights to See

Not going to lie, it was a tough start to the day as I tried to get everything prepared for a variety of weather while staying as light as possible. With a delay, I ended up shopping while waiting at the station, which added to the load. I felt a little bulk as I shot throughout the park, but as the day went on, things started to flow. It was nice to worry less and just enjoy as we captured some great moments. We took a break and caught the regular parade, something I've wanted to do for awhile after watching my cousin's photography. In order to do so, you typically have to camp out and with limited time, we didn't have that luxury. Luckily, we received passes for a reserved spot, which made life so much easier. In the end, we wrapped up, but I decided to stay awake bit longer to catch the illumination, which I am glad I did. It was great to watch despite the crowds. I ended up on a detour and met another friend before heading home as we enjoyed a KPOP-style restaurant. It was a great way to end the evening as an exhausted me, plopped down and had to drag myself to the shower before bed. As I reflect back on the day, I can say, as usual, that this quick turnaround was worth it. Although this time felt shorter than normal, I still appreciated all I was able to accomplish and all the moments I was able to capture.

~:[CH14 - Day 335]:~ A Heavy Load

~:[CH14 - Day 335]:~ A Heavy Load

Most people think that when I am away, life is easy, however, often it's just the opposite. Dragging equipment across the cities through often crowded trains is exhausting. When I am street shooting, it often requires that I hold extra items and at the end of the day, my body is exhausted. However, all the memories I create along the way are reminded by the soreness I feel after a long day's work. I am reminded of the great shots we captured and funny moments we shared. Today was a full day shoot, which was even more demanding, but eating together at the end of it all made it even more memorable. There were exhausting moments when we wanted to quit, but we kept pushing through and became stronger because of it. At times, we shared the weight of it all anf that allowed us to form a bond that I hope will be able to withstand the test of time. I hope that even when things in our life are grueling, we soak in the experience and are able to come out as a stronger person with a collection of memories.

~:[CH14 - Day 334]:~ Expectations vs Reality

~:[CH14 - Day 334]:~ Expectations vs Reality

It's easy to judge a book by its cover. As I ordered this drink, I expected it to be overly sweet and I would toss it away, but I thought, it's worth a shot. I'm not a big chocolate person so in the end, it isn't a drink I would order again, but it wasn't anywhere what I expected. I expected my schedule today to be a bit chaotic, but the reality is that it just flowed. Being here time after time has allowed me to evaluate my timing better as I had just enough time to comfortably make it from spot to spot, which was nice. Every encounter I had to day was grea and while a few I expected to be a bit stressful, ended up being some of the best moments. Don't always allow your expectations to drive your approach, yet also keep yourself grounded in reality. A good balance of both will help you find yourself less disappointed and you may find more pleasant surprises than originally planned. I hope that all your realities are exceptional!

~:[CH14 - Day 333]:~ As Seasons Change

~:[CH14 - Day 333]:~ As Seasons Change

We don't get much of a transition in LA, so I always love to soak in the fall energy when I can. I am thinking about how the seasons signify life and how we change and adapt as time passes. We are vibrant at times and no so at others, but regardless, we are deeply rooted where we are despite our changes. Do we maintain our solid core as all these changes happen or do we slowly rot away, as we are exposed to toxic environments that try to bring us down? I've always believed that my roots have been able to hold up despite everything due to those around me. As I filled my day with this and that, I ended up at Yoyogi Park and came across a friend who I hadn't seen awhile. We quickly made our greetings and headed our separate ways. Even in passing, I was reminded that each encounter is what keeps me standing strong, whether a constant by my side and even those who helped me along the way. The seasons may change, but hopefully our roots stay strong until the very end.

~:[CH14 - Day 332]:~ The Warmth of a Meal

~:[CH14 - Day 332]:~ The Warmth of a Meal

I planned to head out and eat for my first dinner of the trek, however, we ended up just staying in and cooking due to the way the day went. It's nice that the option exists where I am not forced into the world and can hibernate in the walls of a familiar place. I didn't have to deal with the pace of life around me, but could set own pace and enjoy the warmth from the howling wind outside. The costs of living here is so much lower that this dish was a fraction of what it would habe cost me innthe States, still yet, it didn't taste any different, rather it was enriched by the comforts of home and good company. The next few days will be a whirlwind, but at least I know that admist all the chaos, I have somewhere I can seek shelter at.

~:[CH14 - Day 331]:~ Without the Trimmings

~:[CH14 - Day 331]:~ Without the Trimmings

Some years, we have Thanksgivings with all the trimmings. Tonight, we kept it simple and had just the basics. I spent the day at home cleaning, prepping and packing. Thanksgiving is often the day of finishing up the banquet program and converting footage foe the banquet. Today, was no different. I caught up on what I needed to and left my computer running, hoping that it would do what it needed to do. I hope it does. Regardless, as I said yesterday, the time we have together is precious. We ate dinner together and that's all that mattered. I later had food at the airport that had a little more than what I had at home, but a meal surrounded by family and friends hits different. I always make sure I leave after dinner so I can spend it with my family and I am always happy that I chose to, no matter the meal that is served. I am grateful that our table even has food to begin with as I know this year, more than ever, has been quite the struggle for many. Knowing this, I appreciate every time I am able to have enough food on the table. Let's hope that everyone can find this comfort in life and for those who cannot, I hope that to them, someone helps provide what is needed. More than ever, I hope we can see the privileges, even if we have our own struggle and help someone less fortunate. That is truly giving the thanks that this holiday is all about. Thank you again for all the efforts you all have made to help those around you and I hope that I can do the same for everyone else, as I want to truly show my thanks to everyone for helping to get to where I am today!

~:[CH14 - Day 330]:~ A Journey Home ... Together

~:[CH14 - Day 330]:~ A Journey Home ... Together

Less than six hours after I arrived in Las Vegas, we checked out and headed home. We made our traditional stops before arriving back home. While I complained about the stop and go traffic, I was appreciative that I had this precious time with my parents. I realized even more so during this trip how quickly time flies. Things that were once easy became a little more challenging with time and it helped push me even more towards treasuing the time we have together even more. In the end, it was a successful trip, not because of any winnings that we had collected, rather because we shared moments together than more valuable than any jackpot. The true jackpot in life is around you. As while we all spin the same reels of life and sometimes don't quite have the luck others may have, there are people around you who can be the most valuable of all things and when you strike that jackpot in life, hold on to it for dear life. As I looked out the windows. I emphasized how beautiful it was outside despite being stuck in traffic, but in reality, the most beautiful of moments was being created within the confines of this very car. Hoping you all can treasure those who are on that journey along with you.

~:[CH14 - Day 329]:~ The Open Door

~:[CH14 - Day 329]:~ The Open Door

It's tough for all of us. Sometimes when we see a celebrity, we think, it kust be nice." The reality is, it's incredibly tough. The struggle to find a breakout even after success might be tougher than simply chasing a dream. Have you ever tasted something and wanted more of it? It's one thing to imagine how something tastes, but to taste it and not get to taste it again might be even more a struggle as you crave it even more. Kevin talked about this struggle and how thankful he was to have this breakout. Although our circles were Interconnected, our paths crossed when he joined KPOP the Musical. Since then, I've been lucky to see him in New York, Tokyo, and LA. The timing has often worked out, but i had to get a little creative to make this one work. On my annual trip to Vegas, I grabbed lunch with my parents and let them have the rest of the night. I flew out to LA and am taking the bus back as we speak. As I look back on his journey, I think about my own as I knock on the door of various opportunities and hope that the door opens for me. Often, the door is slammed in your face and other times, it's not what you expect on the other side. Regardless, you keep grinding and work towards finding the path you've been looking for. Keep knocking on those doors and keeping looking for the opportunity you've been searching for as when you least expect it, the door you open could unveil what you've been searching for. Good luck on your journey.

~:[CH14 - Day 328]:~ Connecting & Exploring

~:[CH14 - Day 328]:~ Connecting & Exploring

We slept in a bit and headed out to meet JJ before exploring the city. We enjoyed some time relaxing before we headed out for a walk on the strip. I guess you never notice how time has passed as I watched my parents follow me. The 1000m walk may have felt like an eternity my parents as they trailed behind so I stopped to take photos as we went. As we explored, it reminded me of how time quickly time passes by. What seemed easy one day, may become laborious or impossible, which is why you must make the most of the time we have. I noticed a few things here are there that made me realize that I must focus on this precious time we have together. We enjoyed our time exploring the digital art museum and while it wasn't as impressive as TeamLab (it felt like a knockoff version), my parents who have never been there seemed to enjoy it and that's what matters. As I stood atop the viewing platform, I enjoyed the one room that seemed original and was appreciative of how they incorporated some ideas from other art installations and made it their own, something that would only fit Las Vegas. Regardless of what we did though, I was appreciate for the time I got to spend with family and friends as I continue to connect and explore this thing called life.

~:[CH14 - Day 327]:~ A Blessing of a Journey

~:[CH14 - Day 327]:~ A Blessing of a Journey

We woke up early and drove out to Las Vegas. We typically drive at night, but we had to go early for the junior Olympic race. The deadline was a week earlier than normal for the first round and the info was never posted, so we only had one athlete make the registration window. It was great to see him finish off the season well as he finished third just twenty seconds behind someone who ran 15:12 at CIF. We said our goodbyes and we went to eat and then check in. There was a delay in our rooms and so we played and luckily, I was blessed and ended up ahead by day's end. We were all tired, but  we enjoyed a nice dinner to celebrate the end of a wonderful day. Sometimes the road of life can be tough, but even when it is, you realize that simply being able to travel along the road is a blessing. Luckily, we had smooth sailing all day, but regardless of how things play out, I'll appreciate the blessings I have in life.

~:[CH14 - Day 326]:~ Just Lounging

~:[CH14 - Day 326]:~ Just Lounging

I knew I wouldn't be able to do much today. I planned on cleaning, packing, and getting all the work I needed to do before I headed out, prep what I needed to do while I was gone, as well as when I get back. I got a lot of work done. As I looked at my computer, my room, and my to-do list, progress could be seen. Of course, despite it all, it felt like I was just lounging. I took some time to eat out and just enjoy the day before I headed out. Life is busy and crazy, but sometimes, sit back and lounge, no matter how high the stack of things you need to do is. Clear and refresh your mind and your body and soul will follow. Give yourself a break and you'll be ready for the days ahead. Of course, I am not sure I could move a muscle even if I wanted to.

~:[CH14 - Day 325]:~ As Time Passes By

~:[CH14 - Day 325]:~ As Time Passes By

I was talking to the other staff members as I asked, aren't there any younger staff members? The same crew of staff came out to take on the freshmen and got the W while the coaches also got their win. Due to the short bench, I actually had to play both games. I ended up playing well, but I could already tell I would be exhausted tomorrow and beyond. Regardless, I appreciate that I can play today and hope that next year will be the same. As time passes by, we become limited by the strains of aging, so I guess I better enjoy this while I can, even if it means I won't be functional tomorrow. Have a wonderful weekend!

~:[CH14 - Day 324]:~ Just Because

~:[CH14 - Day 324]:~ Just Because

Just because. With the rain rolling in, I decided to cook up a few things for my family. I made a large batch of noodles that we handed out to everyone. I also cooked up a small appetizer for an on going competition focusing on spicy mayo. There were things I had to work on, but it was nice to have the time to do this while I had the time. It's weird to have a little bit more time now that season is over. The breathing room is always feels unnatural as I am used to always piling it on, but the time also helped me realize that I still have work to do. I cooked this meal up just because and just because never felt so good. Enjoy the time you have and do what makes you happy so at the end of the day, you live a life that's fulfilling.

~:[CH14 - Day 323]:~ Dance Dance Dance

~:[CH14 - Day 323]:~ Dance Dance Dance

It's fun when we get to this point in the year and the athletes work together to put together their performances. It's great see them outside the cross country setting and see something new. You see those with creative talents blossom and also watch who shows leadership skills in the process. Most will never grace a stage for dancing other than this, but it's a cross country tradition I enjoy, seeing them move beyond their comfort zone. Some may find themselves intrigued by this and continue dancing while for others, it will be a memory they bury away. For all, however, it will be another experience that helps build the puzzle that is them. For all of us, we have an opportunity to do something, but we often hesitate. Throw yourself out there and you truly never know what the experience will bring.

~:[CH14 - Day 322]:~ Fairness & Frustration

~:[CH14 - Day 322]:~ Fairness & Frustration

I always love teaching this lesson during the French Revolution. As students draw cards, they are assigned to different estates with the estates receiving different privileges. In the end, I level them up to the same level, however, during the simulation, there always is a bit of frustration with the balance of treatment. It's a question of fairness, something people throughout history have battled with. The treatment of the third estate definitely shows up that the build of the frustration these students faced for a period, can lead to people become upset to the point of launching a revolution. There obviously is a lot more to the story, but this short simulations invokes the emotions accurately. In life, we figure out how to deal with our situations or find a way to change it. Either way, we need to live with what we do. If we simply accept it, we have to deal with the frustrations. If we challenge it, we have to accept the risks that come with it. In a time where we have to face an environment where fairness comes into question often, we'll need to make some tough decisions down the line and figure out what is the best path for us. When do we stay quiet and when do we speak up? Who do we stand by and what will we stand for? The road ahead will still be arduous, but if we continuously build up our strength and be confident in ourselves, we'll hopefully find a path that can lead us to where we want to go. In the end, the students left happily after eating their treat, but they definitely learned a thing or two, either about the frustrations of  life or how it feels to be privileged.

~:[CH14 - Day 321]:~ The Show Must Go On

~:[CH14 - Day 321]:~ The Show Must Go On

I thought about staying home tonight and at some points, I thought I should have, however, I decided to brave the storm and in the end, I was rewarded. The event was rain or shine so despite the forecast, I headed out and prepped for the weather. There were some hiccups and I ended up getting trapped in a bad spot when things got switched up. It was all good when the rain stopped and the umbrellas were down, but when the rain picked up, the umbrellas when up and my spot was no good. I did what I could from where I was, yet missed the performance I was there to capture for the most part. Still yet, I persisted and captured a few nice clips and got some clips from the end of the performance. Failure is part of the job. In my agreements, I often mention that there are no guarantees especially when conditions and crowds impact my ability to complete my tasks, regardless, the show must go on no matter what and I agree to do whatever I can to get the best media possible. In the end, the persistence paid off and I ended up with a decent reel. It wasn't what I imagined, still yet, it was an impressive feat considering the conditions. I was soaked and so I changed out of my clothes before getting into my car. Luckily, I had something to put on. I turned up the heater and headed home, quickly jumping into the shower when I got home. I glanced once more through my footage and smiled, as I knew that considering everything, I did pretty well. Don't quit or give up just because things are difficult. Do what you can and see if you can find a way, as often, your persistence will pay off.

~:[CH14 - Day 320]:~ Rainy Days

~:[CH14 - Day 320]:~ Rainy Days

It felt a little like a ghost town at times. The beautiful blue sky peeked through the clouds overhead, but soon enough, the dark clouds would roll in and pour on us overhead. This was the story of the past few days. The rain kept bothering us, but today, was a little bit of a break when I went out for my weekly drink. Like some, I actually like rainy days, when I am inside. The pitter patter of the rain outside is kind of soothing. I get intrigued when the rain starts pouring down, so much so that I walk outside to check it out. I sometimes even take my camera out and walk into the rain for some shots, jumping into a hot shower or bath immediately after. When I am traveling, I love to head out and capture reflections shots after the rain, as it's a perfect opportunity to capture something a little different. Rainy days can be a pain, but there are many things that make it great as well. Find what makes a day great, even when it's not a day you want to remember. As bad as things were, find the smallest thing to celebrate and work on what you can to change the direction of your momentum. When your shoulders shrug and you drag you feet, you only make those rainy days of life last longer, so do you best to look up and look for that blue sky peeking through those clouds, trying to recapture the sky. Eventually the storm clouds will clear and the rainy days will pass, but learn to navigate those challenging times so you can also find a way to succeed, even when the storm feels like it's everlasting.

~:[CH14 - Day 319]:~ If It's In The Cards

~:[CH14 - Day 319]:~ If It's In The Cards

We don't always control what happens in our life. Luck and fate play their role as well. I spend the day catching up on work, while also watching the CIF races that took place on Saturday. I was glad we raced on Friday as it was pouring on there on Saturday. While our season was over, I captured the CIF cards that I write annually to the athletes. I make a design on them and write on the back. This year, I decided to type on the back since it often bleeds through the card and ruins the front design. While originally, I wasn't planning to do the cards with my changed role, I decided it was a tradition I wanted to stick with and thus I did. As I reflected on our season, there were things that went well and others that didn't go so well. Rather than worrying on how to change things, I figured we can just roll with what happens and not become a worrywart. If it's in the cards, it will happen and if it's not, it won't. In life, we can only do our best and the rest is left up to that fate and if luck is on our side, things will pan out, if not, we'll figure it out. At the end of the day, we finally found out that the cards fell in line for Whitney as they advanced to CIF Finals. The timing error caused a long delay in the results, but I was glad to see this team advance, especially considering we had two former athletes on the boys team (one on the girls team). It was a well deserved accomplishment and a reminder that when you work hard and never give up, you give yourself an opportunity. I'll look forward to the opportunities ahead for me and my students and athletes, but for now, all I can do is put my head down and work, preparing myself for the road ahead, the same message my athletes will read when they read through their cards.

~:[CH14 - Day 318]:~ Changing Course

We found out earlier in the week that they would be changing to the rain course with the storm incoming. The rain didn't quite roll in when we arrived, which was nice as it allowed us to walk in peacefully. We hit in the parking structure for the first time, which made it easier as the check in was also located in the same area. The course was fast, but not completely flat as there were a few up and downs which slowed the course down just slightly. However, overall, it was a quick course. While talking to one of my runners, they actually preferred the normal course more, which I would agree with. Why? It was chaos as the race organizers and CIF changed their minds during the meet. While the girls were about to start, they started shifting people around, not allowing them in various locations and ultimately leaving us up top the parking structure. I was a little furious as coaches would not be able to coach as they normally would and I was upset for my parents, who were trying to figure out what to do to watch the races. It was already hard enough with the rain starting to come down, but changing the rules for coaches/spectators in the middle of a race was a bad choice by CIF. Still yet, while upset, I let it subside and focused on my athletes who pushed through and did what they could. With injuries, illnesses and other issues, we actually had to dig deep for who would be racing, still yet, they stepped up and did their best. It was nice to relax a bit together as a team as we grabbed lunch before heading home. I was glad to be heading home, avoiding most of the storm, which seems to be lining up for tomorrow (sorry to those racing tomorrow). There were struggles and frustrations throughout the season, but as I took my final glance around with this team, there was a lot to appreciate and I was glad I had the opportunity to work with them, especially the seniors. We didn't end up making CIF finals, but we did finished aligned with our projections and athletes found their way to new PRs. They gave it their best despite everything and that's all you can ask for. We often take detours in life and having to change course because of the conditions in life, but do what you can, despite what others are doing around you, and try to make the most of the opportunity you have. Thanks for a wonderful season ohana!
