Snowmaggedon: The Intermission

The past few days have been absolutely insane. It's been a dragon swing of emotions as our flight has gone to cancelled to rescheduled to potentially half cancelled to a green light.

After worrying for days, we got into Washington, DC on Super Shuttles after our bus fell through. When driving through the streets of DC, it was amazing to see how bad it really was in the city. Our students have already helped 3-4 cars get out of a tight spot, as their tires were spinning out. The stacks of snow on the side of the road were at least three feet high in places, knee deep in the National Mall and snowmen have been popping up everywhere (NOTE - we did not make the snowman above).

While it was a bummer that our tour at the National Archives and our night ice skating were cancelled due to inclement weather, it turned out alright as we got some time to shop, toured through Ford's Theater and got into mischief with a few snowball fights.

We ended the night with a plus as we had eight amazing pizzas (no leftovers) from Pizzeria Paradiso while watching a movie in our large suites at the Residence Inn. My room has a couch, a chair, a dining room table, a work table and of course a kitchenette with a full fridge!

In any case, Part II of Snowmaggedon is suppose to arrive tomorrow afternoon and I can only hope that us Californians can survive. It's been quite an adventure and can only get more interesting as the days go on.

The adventures of sixteen students and two chaperones through the feet of snow in DC will continue with it's second chapter tomorrow. Until then, I wish you warm weather and good health :)

Freezing in DC, only to become more frozen!

NOTE TO SELF - Never attempt to complete a half marathon (even if you are just cruising) before you go on a trip where you plan on walking a lot and the escalators could be broken. Painful. Simply painful! Feet, shoulders, arches and more ~ super sore!
