empty seat

the plane flies up in the air
high into the sky
to the normal and mundane
i give a wave goodbye

yet looking at the seat next to me
empty does it rest
as that's what's keeping this great experience
from being the very best

many have tried to fit the seat
yet for some reason not for long
i'm not sure what i need to change
i know something is definitely wrong

the silence that accompanies
is something that is not new
as i am missing that conversation
that connection between me and you

while i may be greeted by friend
family along the way as well
on that companion seat left empty
is where my mind tends to dwell

consider this my wanted ad
a companion to join me for the fun
on adventures to the snowy caps
or others underneath the sun

so as the captain says his final words
i rest my eyes today
hoping that on my next flight
a companion will come my way
