Lone Star

i sat alone under a starry night
wondering what's beyond
as the twinkle reminds me of
someone of whom I've grown fond

there were many nights like these
on the sand, the cool air blew
the true feelings of which I supress
where one's no one else knew

like the many stars that map the sky
for all of us, there is the one
to pick it out of the millions above
my endless search has now begun

yet what if you knew that single star
you knew that it was meant to be
yet the clouds, the moon and others
had prevented it from being seen

I've wondered if my gut feeling was right
if the star discovered was the key
that opened up my heart inside
to set all my emotions free

until that day, I'll stay and peer
gaze up into this night sky
knowing that you are out there waiting
don't worry, I'll be right by
