~:[CH15 - Day 74]:~ A Time to Reflect
I think I always seem to talk about reflection as we visit the 9/11 Memorial. For an event that these students were not alive for, they see the catastrophe that happened right where they stand. The incredible reconstruction of the timeliness of events almost makes them feel as if they can be placed there and fell the emotions of that day. I wonder if it helps them feel the weight of this entire day from the immigrants who entered Ellis Island, the excitement as they passed the Statue of Liberty, the suffering of those who lost during 9/11, or the struggles of those who helped raised the skyscrapers of this city which tower over the rink of Central Park. There is so much history stored within this city, it's unfathomable. However, in all those stories, there is a chance to reflect, a chance to appreciate, and a chance to learn. I always love coming to New York as while I doubt I could live here, showing students around here for a week every year allows me to appreciate the city more and remember all the great memories I created here. In twenty years, when these students come with their families, I hope they remember their experiences here and reflect on all that they experienced and learned during this week.
