~:[CH8 - Day 66]:~ Giving a Voice

~:[CH8 - Day 66]:~ Giving a Voice
I had lunch with my friend and took him around the conference and I got the response I often get, I wish I had a chance to do this in high school. This program is one of the programs that gives you skills that you can most use beyond your years in school and when outsiders watch it, I think it's always evident. As I roamed the halls today, I was proud to see our delegates engaged and involved and showing diplomacy all around. As I listened to our delegates, especially those from Sweden, I heard them arguing for the rights of ALL people. Earlier in the day, we met with the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations and one of the points of emphasis on the policy of Sweden is to give a voice to everyone with a special emphasis right now on women in government. It was great to be able to meet such high level individuals who took time out of their busy schedules to meet with us. The students loved the experienced and carried their enthusiasm into committee. As the day turned into night, I met with a friend real quick before heading back over to the conference after dinner break. I had such good timing and saw so many of my students speak and speak well. One in particular I thought may get distracted since I was there, but she confidently stood up and wiped away all my fears, as she had her voice her. These student fight to give a voice for those who do not have one and in the process they find their own voices. This benefit is exactly why all the time spent prepping them conferences is well worth it. Today, reminded me why.
