~:[CH6 - Day 77]:~ Turning It Around
The day of departure is always crazy. As I sit in the airport waiting to leave for home, I think about this year's Nationals team. We had a bumpy road in preparation and even had our moments during the trip, but the one thing I noticed about this group is the connection that they have with each other. Sure there are things that need to be worked on, but when you think about it, we all do and if all these difficulties can be solved, the success only becomes that much sweeter. It's always tough to do well when you bring a big group to Nationals, but they still left with the Award of Excellence in Debate and in Research, brining home two delegation awards again. Of course, this conference is not about the award, rather about the growth, about learning, and about connection with delegates from around the country and the world. We sit here delayed at the airport and will arrive home at about 3am and as difficult as that may be for us, I am not sure that I would want this trip to end any other way. Why? I guess the difficulty in this delay allowed me to see them together, not complaining that they are delayed, but celebrating that they have a few more moments to spend with each other. I will rest well going home knowing all that we had to go through to reach this point. Despite it all, I couldn't be prouder at this moment, delays, difficulties and all.
