~:[CH13 - Day 145]:~ Crossing the Finish Line
Maybe it's my cross country background, but I've never been one to have a party on the last day of school. I know it's enjoyable to sign yearbooks and chat, but I've always believe that we must see things through, as I've talked about before. With my seniors, I know they dreaded coming to my class, but I made sure that they saw their academic careers through the end. We ended with two days of finals, an essay and a MCQ. At the end of each year, I write a letter to my classes and the one point I wanted to be sure to make with my seniors is, that you want to make sure that you work until the very end. Why work for 95% of the time and then ultimately falter the final 5%. I was watching a video where an Oregon University athlete was celebrating before he crossed the finish line and someone else came up strong beside him and won. It happens all the time. When you let up too early, others are going to pass you, thus I always tell them, see it through. I think it's a valuable lesson for all of us. For each of us, we have to decide our values and priorities, but for me, if I start something, I always try to finish it. At times, I do have to make decision and pick a route or a plan, but for the most part, I try to see all things through so I can cross the finish line confidently. One of my colleagues asked her students the question of how they want to be remembered. They can do all the work they can for three years and nine to ten months, but if they get senioritis the last few weeks, many may just remember them for those final four weeks, throwing away all that work and effort they put it. Similarly, grades can fall just as quickly and thus, I hope they all make sure to cross the finish line and do so well. The seniors ended up finishing their finals and saying goodbye during this chaotic day, however, as many things that were going on today, all the focus was on these seniors as they made their final push across that finish line.
