a tick & a tock

five seconds earlier
24 hours too late
is it all timing
possibly fate?

if i arrived that much sooner
would all have changed?
are our lives perfectly planned
so neatly arranged?

if i attended that event
would our paths have crossed?
would i still be standing here
completely lost?

would your attention be my way
would you be with me?
is it possible i'd find a new world
a new perspective i'd see

would that one minute, one second
change all i know?
missing an opportunity
as on with my life i go

would a single tick or a tock
shatter the world where i reside
in its place build a palace
or force me to hide?

as the alarm sounds this morning
five more minutes with snooze
maybe one day i'll understand
the opportunities i may lose

for now it's one second
one minute, one day
we'll see what my timing
will throw at me today
