~:[CH5 - Day 322]:~ The Air Up There
You could feel it in the air. The students were ready for break and so was I. The anticipation grew with each period and while busy, I was excited for the day. I went around the city searching for copies of the Press Telegram for our article. (http://www.presstelegram.com/sports/20161117/cerritos-cross-country-sets-milestone-by-qualifying-for-cif-ss-finals) I found ten and needed 12. [If you have a copy of Frdiay's paper, let me know!] Regardless, I continued to search in between pho, going to transportation, prepping for the coaches' game and of course, our final CIF Finals practice. The practice was comfortable and I left practice inspired. Sadly, I had to run off before they finished partner stretching, as I headed to the coaches' versus JV game. I shot well in warm ups, but couldn't make a shot in the game, aside from a reverse layup. However, my steals were pretty important and in the end, we took the "W." It is always great seeing the alumni come back. It's a bit weird, but very cool. While it was a little different, as I am not coaching for the first season while at Cerritos, it was a nice change of pace, being able to walk around, chat with the team and even take photos. After the game, I made one last round through Cerritos searching for that paper, but did not have any success. Someone ended up finding one for me, so I just need one more to complete the set for the athletes. As I got home, I packed up for tomorrow and began thinking about what's ahead. It's excited, yet nerve-wracking, yet in the end, we can only do our best and see how the cards fall. That's all I asked of my athletes and that will not change. I am proud to have to be going to the meet tomorrow, as while every year prior to this, I waited for the results to be posted online, this year, I get to be there to experience it all with this team. As I think back through the days with them, we've come a long way and I am so proud of how far they have come. We've survived the storm, we've seen the rainbows, and now it's time to venture into uncharted territory. CIF Finals, here we come.
