~:[CH9 - Day 30]:~ Taking a Stand
While there are so many things I want to talk about and while there are things that are more important and pressing personally, I think as a society as a whole, the current state of our country is something that must be addressed. On the eve of the vote for witnesses in the impeachment trials, we stand at a place where we should be questioning, where are we headed? Whether you believe our president should be removed from office or not should not impact whether or not there should be a complete trial. With witnesses blocked and documents held up, this trial will leave us with more questions than answers. If I were on trial, would I be able to say I don't want to release evidence or allow for key witnesses? Of course not. The person on trial shouldn't be allowed to dictate what is and what is not allowed by using their power to restrict access to it. If I am for removal, I obviously want all the facts and if I am against it, I would want all the facts to prove that the person on trial should not be removed. Partisanship has been a huge problem on both sides of the aisle and has led us to this moment where the system that governs us is something that is becoming ineffective. I would hope that those who guide us can see that allowing the information we need to make a proper decision is necessary, otherwise we leave ourselves in a state where the checks and balances system is destroyed as well as rule of law. I've known from the start that a removal from office was highly unlikely, but I didn't think there would be such a process that is so disrespectful to the system that should leave the citizens of this country wondering, what do we need to do next? There has been much written about the founding fathers warning about the evils that lay within the party system and it has truly shown to be the case for awhile now on both sides of the aisle. There are too many things going on in our own lives to have to worry about a government we have to question day in and day out. The reality is, it is not our president who is on trial, but our government and our country as a whole. Let take that stand and make our voices heard, so instead of having to worry about those we elect representing us, we can worry about those more important things we have to worry about.
