~:[CH8 - Day 14]:~ Among the Greats

~:[CH8 - Day 14]:~ Among the Greats
I walked among the greats on this rainy day as I headed into Korean Heritage Night at the Clippers game where Junoflo would perform at halftime at center stage. The players shined on the court and while I left disappointed at the Clippers loss, I still thought about the attention they will all get, the attention that those who have a statue for them have gotten and the spotlight that many will grace. On this very rainy day, there also stood many greats who walked the streets in Los Angeles asking to be given the opportunity to do their best. While these statues get shined, the glimmer in the classrooms of Los Angeles have a lot to do with those who work so hard in the classroom each and every day. I live that life on a daily basis and know how hard that battleground can be and I could not imagine having less resources than I already have. However, just because they aren't in the spotlight like Junoflo was tonight or have a statue made for them, it doesn't make them any less great. The greats have a statue to commemorate what they've done, but not all the greats have a statue. As I look around in my own life, I think about how a statue should be erected for my parents, my friends and my colleagues. Many who work so tirelessly, who may never become rich or famous, but have as much of a right to be as those who stand in front of the Staples Center. To the friend who makes an evening so comfortable and lets you just hang out after a long day or to parents who are always so loving and caring even when you  may not be. There are so many greats in my life and we cannot forget that while they may not have a physical statue in this world, we cannot forget to erect them a statue within our hearts. As the world may never shine a spotlight on them, but it's they who will be the spotlight of your world. They don't need the spotlight, because they are the spotlight and let's never forget that. The world can so easily guide us into the darkness enticing us with the evils of this world, but it is they who will be the guiding light to help you find where you are going. I didn't see a plaque dedicating anything to my parents, friends or colleagues tonight, but as I thought about the many greats, it wasn't a professional athlete or actor that came to mind, but those who made a difference in my life, forever cementing their place in my life. Like the weight of these statues, they keep me grounded and I hope that I never lose sight of that as I head forward on my path. Many of those who left their classrooms are the greats in the world of someone and I only hope that this world can see that greatness is more than the spotlight of the world, but rather those who need not a statue, as they will be remembered despite its absence. Tomorrow, let's be grateful and show appreciation to all those who are the greats in our lives and raise your voices to let them know that they hold a place in the wall of fame of your life. I guarantee you, it will be a greater than any statue could ever be.
